RECAP: The Goat Herders played Teal Curtain dead even until a breakout 3rd quarter pushed TEA in control of the game. GOA (F) Pete Tsevdos finished with a solid double-double but struggled to shoot efficiently against TEA’s size in the paint. GOA (G) Billy Seremetis, in a rare appearance, added much needed 3-pt shooting, but it wasn’t enough to hold off red hot TEA (G) Ian Zack‘s 19 pts with 5 3FGs.

Player of the Game: Evan Leong (NFZ) 24 pts, 8 3FGs

RECAP: On paper, there is really no way No Fly Zone OG could conceivably win this game. Gritty FOB City had a full roster against an NFZ team with no bigs. But it turned into a shoot out as neither team could consistently defend the other as each played to their strengths. NFZ used their speed/shooting, seeing three guards score 19+ points, a TDL first this season, while FOB dominated the paint with their bigs, (C) Vic Chia putting up a career best 25 pts, 26 reb and (F) David Ri also dropping 16 pts, 17 reb. It seemed like the kind of game where the team with the ball last would win it. Except, FOB had the ball with :06 seconds and never got off a shot. NFZ holds on for a huge upset.

RECAP: For the second week in a row Larry the Cable Guy’s Kids (G) Eddie Tsao was quiet offensively, and it’s probably unfair to expect the kind of output he displayed in Week 1 in every game, but LAR needs his scoring like TAP NY needs (G) Will Chu. Last week, in a loss, Chu started to find his jumper again, and this week, he unleashed it with a fury, at one point making 4 straight 3FGs to push TAP ahead for good. TAP also saw solid efforts from (G) John Hsu and (C) Kevin Leung, picking up for cold shooting from (F) Jin Bae Kim. LAR also has positives to look at, (G) Leo Fu scored a season high 19 pts and versatile (F) Ben Wang grabbed 16 rebounds and 8 assists in a strong all-around game.

GA7		 2-0 Game 7 is winning by an average margin of 26 ppg in two wins so far this season. They are young, they are fast, they play with high energy, and by the end of the season you may be looking at the best back court in D2, along with the best big man in (C) Young Song. So far, this team is on the fast track to moving up to D1 next season.
2 (n/a) PRB 2-0 Pretty Boys are the weeknight version of the defending champs (SXP) with two big adds, (G) Caleb Lui & (F) Pierre Riddle. Both give PRB the kind of defense and hustle that SXP lacked. (G) David Chu should easily lead the league in scoring again. With their veteran roster, this team is still the favorite to win it all until we see how they play vs GA7.
3 (n/a) BOM 1-1 Led by a core of do-it-all (F) Sherwin Salar, defensive stalwart (F) Joe Bravo and veteran scorer (F) David Hsiung, the Bomb Squad was an overtime away from going to the chip last season (as BSH). (G) Ryan Kim gives them more athleticism and another shooter. This isn’t the deepest team, but their Top 4 can run with any team.
4 (n/a) NGC 1-1 NYC Gritty Committee moved up to D2 to keep (F) Brandon Sang on the roster and he will bolster a formidable front-line. But the offense will still run through (G) Mark Lee, who will bring it night in and night out. The x-factor is always (F) Steve Chung. Whether or not he is making shots is whether or not this team is a contender.
5 (n/a) DYN 1-1 This is a big, versatile team with a lot of pedigree, but the NY Dynasty are old as dirt. Four players on the roster top 40 years of age, they ALL top 35 except for (G) Nelson Yu (34). So this really depends on a game-to-game basis whether they have the legs to win. Is it any consolation that 10 years ago they sweep every team in this division? Probably not.
6 (n/a) GMM 0-2 Guard Me Maybe may still be fiddling with their roster, but this is a team with solid pieces. (G) Kento Kato, (G) Tommy Wong and (F) Jin Bae Kim form a quick, dynamic backcourt. And (F) Adam Wang is a solid, versatile add, but this team lacks size with (C) Kevin Leung as their only big. They’ll have to shoot better than 33% to win.
7 (n/a) MOS 0-2 Mo Speights, Mo Buckets is a new team this season, so there is a bit of trial and error as far as finding the right level of play. So far they have struggled, but MOS has shown no quit. Due to the 7-team format this season, all teams will make the playoffs, so all MOS has to do is get hot at the right time. You just never know.

RECAP: For once, Gritty FOB City’s offense looked rather fluid with (F) Mark Lee filling in, the ball moved well and FOB looked like a fairly effective, potent offense. Even if they didn’t quite get (C) Victor Chia as involved as they maybe should have. But either way, FOB couldn’t get enough stops down the stretch to overtake the Sex Panthers in the 4th qtr. And that’s despite holding (G) David Chu to just 11 pts on 3-17 FGs. But the Panthers are the deepest team in the league, and (F) Chris Di and (G) Greg Loeffert were able to pick up the slack. Di finished with his second straight game of 20 points or more.

RECAP: By no stretch of the imagination would anyone call this a well-played game. Both teams had their ugly moments in what was essentially a slug-fest, but for the Goat Herders, finally getting (F) Pete Tsevdos, (F) Pete Stanojevic and (C) Gus Konidas on the floor obviously makes a huge difference. Even if only one of the three can get it going on the offensive end, GOA can compete. In this case, it was Konidas who scored an efficient game high 24 points. But GOA also had no answer for Raptors new add (F) Mike Adames who put up his own highly efficient 20 pts, 12 reb effort. With Adames, the Raps might finally have a the finisher they’ve needed.

RECAP: Two weeks in a row, Larry the Cable Guy’s Kids have had to play two teams with a lot of pedigree on the roster, if also aging legs. And for two weeks, the Kids have put up solid showings, but the major difference seems to be experience. As with FOB, No Fly Zone was able to close this game with better execution in the 4th qtr, with a PG who could control the game late. For what its worth, LAR played harder, created more second chance opportunities on the glass, and were the aggressor on defense. They just could not make shots. It didn’t help that (G) Eddie Tsao saw an off day, or this could have been a very different game.

Player of the Game: N. Scovronick (TEA) 27 pts, 11 reb

RECAP: After a disappointing spring season, TAP NY got back on track with a win last week but despite their good team speed, they could not contend with Teal Curtain’s superior size up and down the roster, in particular (F) Noah Scovronick, who dominated the paint. TAP had no answer for him, and despite a flurry of 3FGs from (G) Will Chu to create some buzz in the 2nd qtr, their second half fell flat. Chu got surprisingly little support offensively from (G) John Hsu and (F) Jin Bae Kim. Credit Teal Curtain’s physical defense for that. At full strength, Teal Curtain is a contender despite falling out of the playoffs last season.

RECAP: Mo Speights, Mo Buckets started this game strong, making some tough shots against an unorganized defense and a less organized offense. But the NY Dynasty quickly turned it around in the 2nd qtr as (G) Ren Hsieh put his players in the right spots and DYN got focused on defense. As DYN started knocking down perimeter shots, MOS just didn’t have the firepower to keep pace.

RECAP: Guard Me Maybe had their chances in this one, but only (G) Kento Kato came through with any discernible offense. NYC Gritty, on the other hand, got another strong outing from (G) Mark Lee, and (F) Steven Chung chipped in a double-digit scoring effort. NGC (C) Victor Chia also finished with one of his best defensive performances in the past few seasons.

RECAP: Bomb Squad had to bring in subs to make five for this one, and none of them could figure out how to stop a red hot Sex Panthers backcourt. (G) David Chu and (G) Caleb Lui combined for 44 points on 18-36 shooting. BOM got three double-digit scoring bids, and a strong all-around effort from (F) Sherwin Salar but it wasn’t enough to hold off PRB.

RECAP: The early game doesn’t suit everyone but Teal Curtain controlled this game early on with (G) Alex Gochal taking the reins. But Sex Panthers (F) Matt Parker made key jumpers to keep his team close, and SXP gradually overtook a tired TEA side playing with just 5 available players.

RECAP: It’s always tough for a new team to take on veteran former champs like Gritty FOB City, but Larry the Cable Guy’s Kids went toe-to-toe until the 4th qtr when FOB finally broke through. One thing’s for sure LAR (G) Eddie Tsao is one to watch. He may now be the fastest player in D2 with moves to spare.

RECAP: It was never a pretty game for the Raptors, but they seemed to finally get control in the 4th qtr. That is until they let TAP NY (G) John Hsu hit three consecutive 3FGs to give TAP the lead back. TAP then unleashed super-sub (F) Jin Bae Kim‘s boundless energy on a worn out Raptors side, turning a what seemed to be a wire-to-wire game into a 10-pt win.
