TDL Spring 2017 Week 6 Power Rankings (All Weeknight Divisions)

PREMIER DIVISION

Rank Team Record Comments
(=)
SIX
4-0 Still undefeated, TEAM SIX has just found ways to win. Four players are scoring in double-digits so far this season, so they come at you with as balanced an attack as ever. Speedy (G) B.J. Davis could be a break out player this season.
(=) WHG 4-1 Point (G) Michael Springer is leading the way for WE HAD GAME with sharpshooters (G/F) Jordan Schultz and (G/F) Zack Simmons on the wings. They don’t have much in a low-post threat this season, but so far they haven’t needed one.
(=) MWW
2-2 This is more losses already than we’re accustomed to seeing for METTA WORLD WAR, but rest assured they will still make the playoffs and contend for the title this season. With their full roster, no team has more firepower or a better team defense.
(+2) DYN 2-2 NY DYNASTY bounced back with two straight wins after a poor start. (F) Osazee Omokaro is back, and has given DYN the defensive lift they needed. (F) Michael Reding has also returned, and has been red hot from behind the arc this season, making 6.3 3pg at 53%.
(-1) SPA 1-2 Getting (G) Josh Hyon on the floor is great for the NYK SPARTANS, but despite a strong 26-point debut, SPA couldn’t quite pull out the win. But the Spartans will finally get the consistent perimeter scoring they’d been lacking for the past several seasons.
(-1) PNL 1-3 It’s good to see (F) Seamus McKiernan inching closer to the 20-10 machine he was before injury, but defense has been PEACE & LOVE‘s weakness again this season. Not particularly long or athletic, PNL needs a more cohesive team defense to get stops when they need them most.
(=) STM 0-4 STRANGER TEAM has also struggled with cohesion, in all facets. This is a young team with great energy and athleticism, but they haven’t quite turned all that into winning plays. If they get it together, though, this is a team that could make a move.

1ST DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=) CRV 5-1 CRAFTY VETS took a loss by forfeit then bounced back with a huge 90-73 win over OPA last night. In (G) Chris Daley, they have the best player in D1, and only one team has come close to challenging them.
(=) GA7 3-2 The loss to OPA wasn’t a good one, but they do have a win over YOLO on the resume, and played CRV tougher than any other team so far. So for now, GAME 7 will stay at #2. But put it in pencil.
(=)
YOL
3-2 Their numbers don’t dazzle you, but YOLO has gotten solid wins against HON and OPA. They have three new players with double-figure scoring output led by (F) Warren Green‘s 13.7 ppg.
(=) OPA 3-2 So far so good for OPTION A, even after the blowout loss to CRV. The scoring duo of (F) Phil Thomas (15.8 ppg) and (F) Haris Ahmed (17.4 ppg), with (G) Scheed Bailey (10.6 ppg) has been potent enough so far.
(=) HON 2-2 The only consistency the HONEY BADGERS have seen so far is (F) Zach Moretti, the only player to have played in every game. They will probably still make the playoffs, but they have to get their rotation set.
(=) JLA 1-4 Rough season so far for JUSTICE LEAGUE, they were already a streaky shooting team, and this season the shots just aren’t falling. JLA is shooting just 21% from three. And there hasn’t been much in the paint either.
(=) STA 1-4 STADIUM STARS have some solid young players who compete in every game with fire. It’s just going to take some time for the team to gel as a unit and develop a cohesive defensive strategy.

2ND DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(+1) UBC
3-1 UNCLE BOUGHT A COW (F) Ben Hoynes is playing MVP ball, leading D2 with 14.8 rpg. With his work on the glass and the all-around effort of rookie (F) Marco Barratta, the front-court has been more than a supporting cast for (G) David Weiss.
(+2) DPY
4-1 They score by committee and don’t put up a lot of points, but DON’T EVER PLAY YOURSELF plays tough physical D that keeps games close. And this season, they’ve found ways to pull out close games.
(-2) HAR
3-2 TEAM HARDWOOD has been solid, losing two games by six combined points against the only teams above them. They should contend, pairing a big front line with a crafty (G) Justin Rigney.
(+1) SKL
4-2 It’s been an up and down season for SKILLSHARE, but they’ve won the games they should have won. But with the bigger lineups in D2, they will need a full roster to contend for the title.
(-2)
NGC
3-2 The defending champs are interested in only one thing, getting back to the championship game. Once the playoffs start, you should see a sudden uptick in the effort from NYC GRITTY COMMITTEE
(+1) JAM
3-3 SPACE JAM‘s front line is as big as they come in D2 and (F) J.L. Novosad has scored well this season. And so has (G) Liam Lee and (F) Jon Clark. The result of all this is a .500 record. JAM is a wild card.
(-1) GMM
1-5 Tough season for GUARD ME MAYBE, even after getting (F) Brian Law back in the lineup. GMM was just never able to build any continuity, looking uneven in most games after a big win to open the season.
(=) ROT 0-5 Newbies DA ROTI PROJECT has not worked so far, but as with many expansion teams, it can take time. This is a very big roster so working in a proper rotation should be a priority for next season.

3RD DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=)
SPR
4-1 Another MVP caliber season for (G) Leuis Ng as he leads SPAGHETTI RAMEN. (F) Matt Auerbach remains a solid option, though his scoring has dipped, and (F) Mark Hahn hasn’t even gotten going yet.
(+2)
DYN
3-2 As well as Ng has played this season, NY DYNASTY (G) David Chu may be the front-runner for MVP. And two of his teammates can vie for the Defensive MVP. This team is top heavy, but if Chu is on, look out.
(-1) YIE
4-2 The combo of (G) Derek Lu and (F) Max Paynter will be tough for any team to beat in the playoffs. YIELDMO will be a contender right away when the post-season begins.
(-1) BIN
2-2 TEAM BINY has taken a couple of tough losses, but come playoff time you can expect this team to challenge for the title. If (G) Tony Cuadrado can get playoff eligible, he bolsters a deep roster of guards.
(=) NGC 3-2 Solid season for (F) Steven Chung, he’s shooting more consistently for NYC GRITTY COMMITTEE than he has in awhile. NGC is never a deep team, but they have personnel who could move this team up.
(=) SNB 2-3 SMASH N BOUNCE is in solid playoff position with wins over WSW and NET, but they can do themselves a big favor with one more win. It won’t be easy, playing all Top 4 teams the remainder of the season..
(=) WSW 1-2 WHAT IS A SEAWOLF? keeps getting their games pushed due to some bad luck, but they have an MVP candidate, too, in (G) Tommy Zheng, if they can just win some games now.
(=) NET 0-6 This certainly isn’t the result the NASTY NETS were hoping for, but it’s all about getting reps with the team. Even the defending champion DYN took several seasons before they could contend.

TDL Spring 2017 Week 3 Power Rankings (All Sunday Divisions)

1ST DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(n/a) NFZ 2-1 Even with their Week 3 loss, the defending champion YUNG NO FLY ZONE is a +16.7, scoring a league-best 73 ppg. No roster changes here except that veteran starter (G) Ren Hsieh is out. This is a team hitting its stride now, which is kinda crazy to consider.
(n/a) SKW 1-1 The veteran SK WAR DOG will always contend, but they aren’t getting any younger. SKW was too reliant on its aging backcourt for points last season so adding (F/C) Josh Schneider is big, both literally and figuratively. They need points in the paint, Schneider will get them.
(n/a)
LMA
1-0 Looks like a couple of new faces on the LACE’O MY ASO roster, and the early result was a blowout win over RAR.  Will be interesting to see what the full roster looks like. LMA needs to bounce back from a pretty disappointing effort last season, after their best season before that.
(n/a) TRP 1-1 This ranking isn’t to diminish TRAPAHOLICS win over NFZ, but they didn’t face 3 of their Top 5 scorers. Regardless, getting that win was important to get TRP headed in the right direction. Sneaky athletic (G/F) Hamzah Shabazz will be one to watch.
(n/a) TOP 1-1 TOP STARS got a much needed win after moving back to Sundays from the weeknight division. They can be called former champions now, and (F/C) Quinn Hood is the centerpiece. His big Week 3 performance earns PotW honors. Don’t sleep on the Stars.
(n/a) RAR 1-1 After a solid Week 1 win, a short-handed RAINING ROSEBUDS got blown out by LMA. This team has always had plenty of guard depth but how far they can go has tended to hinge on how available perennial all-TDL (F) Mark Wehling is to his team.
(n/a) NGC 0-2 Don’t expect NYC GRITTY COMMITTEE to stay down here for long. NGC has never had a D1 season with (F) Chris Youn on the roster in which they did not win the chip. So they have that going for them.

2ND DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(n/a) WOL 3-0 The WOLVERINES are scrapping and finding ways to win. Like they do most seasons, they keep it close and give themselves a chance to win, this season the ball has fallen their way more often than not, so far. It hasn’t been flashy but they’re winning.
(n/a) BOM 2-1 Addition of (G) Alex Tsay to BOMB SQUAD means they’re making a conscious move to small ball, maybe a result of their inability to corral SXP guards in last season’s title game. Either way, they get an MVP candidate in Tsay, on both offense and defense.
(n/a)
SXP
2-1 The defending champion SEX PANTHERS haven’t gone anywhere, and they don’t need to be the top-ranked team to win it all again. This is a team that has played many seasons together, and knows exactly what it takes to win it all again.
(n/a) NFZ 2-1 NO FLY ZONE stalwarts (F) Saleem Ahmed & (F) Young Wang are back. And they might actually be a better fit than All-TDL (F) Phil Thomas. (F) Justin Mar had been playing his best ball yet, but he now has to leave the team for personal reasons.
(n/a) TEA 2-1 Every season TEAL CURTAIN makes an appearance in the Top 5, it’s just a matter now of how long they can stay here. As they have in every season, they have all the personnel they need for a title run, they just need regular attendance to make it happen.
(n/a) SUP 1-1 After falling just short in the chip, SUPREME TEAM took a few seasons off before returning this spring. Key bigs (F) Joseph Choi and (C) Max Choi are back, but (G) Jeff Syham hasn’t appeared yet. We’ll see if the extended layoff has had any effect on the team.
(n/a) FOB 1-1 GRITTY FOB CITY hasn’t quite sorted out their roster yet, but the core guys are the same. They have plenty of veteran players who will work toward the playoffs, and then make another push for the chip.
(n/a) TAP 1-2 TAP NY will probably linger around this part of the rankings this season. They’ll be fighting for a playoff spot, but if they can get there, veterans (G) Will Chu and (G) John Hsu give them a chance in any single-elimination type situation.
(n/a) JPU 1-2 After winning the D3 chip, JAPAN UNITED makes the jump to D2, but (F) Daniel Mosley has been unavailable. That means (F) Marc Lashly will take on a bigger role. And if (C) Tom Nierenberg stays on, he’ll help. This team scraps so anything is possible.
10 (n/a) TTO 1-2 Newcowmers TTO got off to a solid start with a season opening win, but have since lost two straight. (G/F) J.C. Perez has been a very solid do-it-all player for the team so far. It’s early in the season, this team could still make a big move up the rankings.
11 (n/a) ROV 0-2 Not a good start for RICE IN OUR VEINS, they just aren’t shooting very well at 28% FGs after two games. That’s really been their biggest issue so far, they’ve kept all opponents in the 40s otherwise.
12 (n/a) GOA 0-3 Every season the GOAT HERDERS try and add new ringers to try to bolster their roster, but for whatever reason, they never seem to have the desired impact. The core of this team is solid, they just need to get some continuity.

3RD DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(n/a)
BSH
3-0 BALL SO HARD is back, dropping to D3 this season, and they’re dominating already. The big three (G) Jake Liu, (F) Jerry Ho, and (F) David Hsiung will be tough to contend with all season.
(n/a) SPR 2-0 After a disappointing season in D2, SPAGHETTI RAMEN is back and ready to contend for another chip. (F) Mark Hahn is back, though limited, but that’s okay, (G) Leuis Ng is in typical MVP form.
(n/a) NFZ 2-0 NO FLY ZONE OG features the return of (F) Young Wang from injury. And (F) Marvin Chu has already shown off his defense with a dominant Week 3 outing. That should be the case all season.
(n/a) STR
0-2 Not a good start for STREET DREAMS, but they had the toughest opening schedule in D3. They should bounce back as soon as (G) Miguel Melbourne returns to his back-to-back MVP self.
(n/a) LIF 2-0 Great start for LET IT FLY as the addition of (F) Duddley Julien has been a major key. With Julien they have a top end rebounder for D3, which will give LIF more second chance points.
(n/a) LAR 1-2 LARRY THE CABLE GUY’S KIDS could be moving up. New add (F) Rob Rodkey has been posting monster numbers, and if they can put it together chemistry-wise, LAR can post some wins.
(n/a) POG 0-2 You can see now just how much (F) Jin Bae Kim means to POGI POINTS. He’s out for now with a knee injury, but if the team can tread water long enough for him to come back, watch out.
(n/a) CRU 1-2 CRUSTACEANS (G) Danny Feng has stepped up as a secondary scorer this season, but (G) Jason Lai has been off from 3. This team can still move up though, and their effort vs BSH is one to build on.
(n/a) BIL 1-2 Newbies BALL IS LIFE has a great 1-2 punch in (G) Sean He and (F) Justin Zhao, but the trick will be finding supplementary offense from their role players. 42 ppg won’t be enough.
10 (n/a) LEG 0-2 LEGO just isn’t scoring enough points, averaging just 35 ppg so far. (G) Ivan Hui and (G) Jeff Lam can score in double-digits, but even then, they need another consistent option, preferably in the paint.

TDL Spring 2017 Week 4 Power Rankings (All Weeknight Divisions)

PREMIER DIVISION

Rank Team Record Comments
(n/a)
SIX
3-0 Every other season TEAM SIX seems to get off to a dominant start. And this is one of those seasons. The big factor in two of their wins so far has been newcomer (G) James Wang. An overseas pro, Wang has lit up every team he’s played against so far.
(n/a) WHG 2-1 Last season, WE HAD GAME had their best regular season, but they fell short once again in the playoffs. They’ll try to improve on that effort this season with (G) Michael Springer leading the way. Another season with (G) Jordan Schultz and (G) Zack Simmons won’t hurt either.
(n/a) MWW
1-2 Not a great start for the 3-time champion METTA WORLD WAR who missed out on the title game last season, but availability has been spotty for key players. But getting (G) Chaz Thomas and (F) Nick Annacone back on the roster should mean a quick turnaround.
(n/a) SPA 1-0 Fresh off a D1 championship, the NYK SPARTANS are back in the Premier with star (F) Young Song playing as well as ever. The team’s back court isn’t getting any younger, but experience they have.
(n/a) PNL 1-2 PEACE & LOVE is back with essentially the same roster, a few new faces included. This is a team of scrappers who have played the underdog most seasons, but they’ll look to shake that rep this season.
(n/a) DYN 0-2 Some new faces on the NY DYNASTY roster, but the core is still there led by (G) Garrett James. (G) Landon Glover is back, and if that weren’t enough, the addition of newcomer (G) Rell Watson will give DYN no shortage of top end guards. It’s bigs they need.
(n/a) STM 0-1 Lot of new faces here for a team making their first foray into the Premier, so STRANGER TEAM gets a default low-ranking for now until they get some more games under their belt.

1ST DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(n/a) CRV 3-0 A roster of mostly new players, but don’t call them rookies. The CRAFTY VETS have been around. Led by (G) Chris Daley, what CRV lacks in youth, they more than make up for with size, skill and team chemistry. In Daley, they have D1’s best one-on-one scorer.
(n/a) GA7 2-1 The last time GAME 7 played in TDL, they cruised to the D2 title. Now they’re back with a beefed up roster to try for D1 bragging rights. Rookie (G) Julian Choi has proven to be a great new scoring option, he’s been their best one-on-one scoring option so far this season.
(n/a)
YOL
2-1 YOLO hasn’t dazzled anyone with big numbers so far this season but they’ve pulled some big wins against winning teams. A couple of newcomers lead the way in (G) Warren Green and (F) Sam Chadwick.
(n/a) OPA 2-1 What OPTION A lacked last season was a consistent wing scorer, and new add (F) Phil Thomas gives them that scorer now. (F) Haris Ahmed and (G) Scheed Bailey have given solid support to a 2-1 start.
(n/a) HON 2-2 An unexpected start for the HONEY BADGERS, but you can count on this veteran team to turn it around quickly. For once, they might have too many players on the roster, but they’re actually putting up solid offensive numbers for once. Could the defense actually be slacking?
(n/a) JLA 1-3 Not the start that JUSTICE LEAGUE was looking for, the scoring just hasn’t been there this season. Their defense has been solid, but if their offense doesn’t catch up, this might be another long season..
(n/a) STA 0-3 Win-less so far this season, this will be a learning process for newbies STADIUM STARS. They have some solid pieces, including leading scorer (G) Chris Ramos, but developing chemistry will be key for this team.

2ND DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(n/a) HAR 2-0 TEAM HARDWOOD didn’t fancy themselves ready for D1, so they dropped down to D2 where they have won two in a row by a 23.5 ppg margin. This is a big roster with an able scorer in (F) Justin Drucker
(n/a) UBC 2-1 UNCLE BOUGHT A COW, on the other hand, wanted a challenge, and moved up from D3. This is a team now that could win it all. Veteran (G) David Weiss will lead the way, but the biggest surprise this season has been the standout play of (F) Ben Hoynes.
(n/a)
NGC
2-1 The defending champs, NYC GRITTY COMMITTEE, are back with more depth at the guard position but (G) David Chu appears to have finally settled in as the featured scorer. As usual, the veteran Gritty are just looking to make the playoffs, they can make a title run from any seed.
(n/a) DPY 2-1 New addition (G) Emery Clark brings more scoring to the roster for DON’T EVER PLAY YOURSELF. This should help do-it-all (G) Kali Pearson. This is a big, physical lineup with a lot of versatile players. If they keep building their chemistry they can make a run.
(n/a) SKL 2-2 When they’ve had all of their core four on the court, SKILLSHARE looks like they can compete with any team in D2 after making the jump from D3 this season. (G) Elliott Curtis may still be the best PG in the league at this level. And (F) Scott Sullivan‘s game has transitioned well.
(n/a) GMM 1-2 Getting (F) Brian Law back was a huge boost for this team, but GUARD ME MAYBE was always going to be a team that needed to scrap to get wins. (F) Alvin Kong is also the perfect fit in this situation, but they’ll need to pick the up the D to start winning consistently.
(n/a) JAM 1-2 They have as big a front-line as you’re gonna find in D2, but SPACE JAM relies on its streak 3-point shooting to win games. When they’re hitting the 3FGs, they can compete with any team in D2. Consistency is key.
(n/a) DRP 0-3 The scoring just hasn’t been there for this spin-off team from DPY. DA ROTI PROJECT has plenty of players on the roster, with some very solid pieces. The question they have to answer is whether they can build the chemistry necessary to start winning some games.

3RD DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=)
SPR
3-1 This should be no surprise, SPAGHETTI RAMEN are perennial faves to win it all even after a season in which they didn’t. (G) Leuis Ng is carrying the heavy load right now, but Ramen should be glad to see (F) Mark Hahn back on the court, even if it takes some time for him to fully return.
(=) YIE 3-1 YIELDMO beat SPR a couple of weeks ago but they took a huge blowout loss from NGC in Week 2, so they’ll come in at no. 2 this week. If they keep this up, however, they can challenge for the top spot. Rookie (F) Max Paynter has been a force and (G) Derek Lu is as tough as they come.
(n/a) BIN 2-1 A veteran team that’s been to the title game before, TEAM BINY is only in it to beat SPR and win the title. (F) Carson Yiu will lead the way, but the addition of (G) Tony Cuadrado will be huge. Known as a defensive stopper, Cuadrado will also help on the boards despite his relative small stature.
(n/a) DYN
1-2 This wasn’t the start that the NY DYNASTY wanted, but they got back on track with a big win over NGC. (G) David Chu will carry scoring honors, but the addition of (G) Steve Lee brings guard depth, and the add of (G) Caleb Lui brings maybe D3’s best defensive guard.
(n/a) NGC 1-2 Despite the record, NYC GRITTY COMMITTEE will challenge for the title this season. Just too much veteran talent on this roster led by (G) James Choi and (F) Steve Chung. Not to mention (G) Teddy Oh has been a solid rookie addition to the roster.
(n/a) SNB 2-1 This might seem like we’re disrespecting SMASH N BOUNCE but we just to see one or two more games. Their two wins have come against teams ranked lower than they are. But (F) Tim Zhang is playing well along with newcomer (G) James Dai, and captain (G) Andrew Tu.
(n/a) WSW 1-2 WHAT IS A SEAWOLF? has a big time scorer in (G) Tommy Zheng, and they have competed in their losses, but team offense has always been the major short-coming with this team. Hopefully, Zheng can keep those shots dropping.
(n/a) NET 0-4 The NASTY NETS are the only team that have yet to tally a win. (G) Matt Silberman has been their most consistent scorer with 12 ppg, but they need more offense to compete with a solid D3 field this season.
