TDL Spring 2017 Week 6 Power Rankings (All Weeknight Divisions)

PREMIER DIVISION

SIX
4-0 Still undefeated, TEAM SIX has just found ways to win. Four players are scoring in double-digits so far this season, so they come at you with as balanced an attack as ever. Speedy (G) B.J. Davis could be a break out player this season.
(=) WHG 4-1 Point (G) Michael Springer is leading the way for WE HAD GAME with sharpshooters (G/F) Jordan Schultz and (G/F) Zack Simmons on the wings. They don’t have much in a low-post threat this season, but so far they haven’t needed one.
(=) MWW
2-2 This is more losses already than we’re accustomed to seeing for METTA WORLD WAR, but rest assured they will still make the playoffs and contend for the title this season. With their full roster, no team has more firepower or a better team defense.
(+2) DYN 2-2 NY DYNASTY bounced back with two straight wins after a poor start. (F) Osazee Omokaro is back, and has given DYN the defensive lift they needed. (F) Michael Reding has also returned, and has been red hot from behind the arc this season, making 6.3 3pg at 53%.
(-1) SPA 1-2 Getting (G) Josh Hyon on the floor is great for the NYK SPARTANS, but despite a strong 26-point debut, SPA couldn’t quite pull out the win. But the Spartans will finally get the consistent perimeter scoring they’d been lacking for the past several seasons.
(-1) PNL 1-3 It’s good to see (F) Seamus McKiernan inching closer to the 20-10 machine he was before injury, but defense has been PEACE & LOVE‘s weakness again this season. Not particularly long or athletic, PNL needs a more cohesive team defense to get stops when they need them most.
(=) STM 0-4 STRANGER TEAM has also struggled with cohesion, in all facets. This is a young team with great energy and athleticism, but they haven’t quite turned all that into winning plays. If they get it together, though, this is a team that could make a move.

1ST DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=) CRV 5-1 CRAFTY VETS took a loss by forfeit then bounced back with a huge 90-73 win over OPA last night. In (G) Chris Daley, they have the best player in D1, and only one team has come close to challenging them.
(=) GA7 3-2 The loss to OPA wasn’t a good one, but they do have a win over YOLO on the resume, and played CRV tougher than any other team so far. So for now, GAME 7 will stay at #2. But put it in pencil.
(=)
YOL
3-2 Their numbers don’t dazzle you, but YOLO has gotten solid wins against HON and OPA. They have three new players with double-figure scoring output led by (F) Warren Green‘s 13.7 ppg.
(=) OPA 3-2 So far so good for OPTION A, even after the blowout loss to CRV. The scoring duo of (F) Phil Thomas (15.8 ppg) and (F) Haris Ahmed (17.4 ppg), with (G) Scheed Bailey (10.6 ppg) has been potent enough so far.
(=) HON 2-2 The only consistency the HONEY BADGERS have seen so far is (F) Zach Moretti, the only player to have played in every game. They will probably still make the playoffs, but they have to get their rotation set.
(=) JLA 1-4 Rough season so far for JUSTICE LEAGUE, they were already a streaky shooting team, and this season the shots just aren’t falling. JLA is shooting just 21% from three. And there hasn’t been much in the paint either.
(=) STA 1-4 STADIUM STARS have some solid young players who compete in every game with fire. It’s just going to take some time for the team to gel as a unit and develop a cohesive defensive strategy.

2ND DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(+1) UBC
3-1 UNCLE BOUGHT A COW (F) Ben Hoynes is playing MVP ball, leading D2 with 14.8 rpg. With his work on the glass and the all-around effort of rookie (F) Marco Barratta, the front-court has been more than a supporting cast for (G) David Weiss.
(+2) DPY
4-1 They score by committee and don’t put up a lot of points, but DON’T EVER PLAY YOURSELF plays tough physical D that keeps games close. And this season, they’ve found ways to pull out close games.
(-2) HAR
3-2 TEAM HARDWOOD has been solid, losing two games by six combined points against the only teams above them. They should contend, pairing a big front line with a crafty (G) Justin Rigney.
(+1) SKL
4-2 It’s been an up and down season for SKILLSHARE, but they’ve won the games they should have won. But with the bigger lineups in D2, they will need a full roster to contend for the title.
(-2)
NGC
3-2 The defending champs are interested in only one thing, getting back to the championship game. Once the playoffs start, you should see a sudden uptick in the effort from NYC GRITTY COMMITTEE
(+1) JAM
3-3 SPACE JAM‘s front line is as big as they come in D2 and (F) J.L. Novosad has scored well this season. And so has (G) Liam Lee and (F) Jon Clark. The result of all this is a .500 record. JAM is a wild card.
(-1) GMM
1-5 Tough season for GUARD ME MAYBE, even after getting (F) Brian Law back in the lineup. GMM was just never able to build any continuity, looking uneven in most games after a big win to open the season.
(=) ROT 0-5 Newbies DA ROTI PROJECT has not worked so far, but as with many expansion teams, it can take time. This is a very big roster so working in a proper rotation should be a priority for next season.

3RD DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=)
SPR
4-1 Another MVP caliber season for (G) Leuis Ng as he leads SPAGHETTI RAMEN. (F) Matt Auerbach remains a solid option, though his scoring has dipped, and (F) Mark Hahn hasn’t even gotten going yet.
(+2)
DYN
3-2 As well as Ng has played this season, NY DYNASTY (G) David Chu may be the front-runner for MVP. And two of his teammates can vie for the Defensive MVP. This team is top heavy, but if Chu is on, look out.
(-1) YIE
4-2 The combo of (G) Derek Lu and (F) Max Paynter will be tough for any team to beat in the playoffs. YIELDMO will be a contender right away when the post-season begins.
(-1) BIN
2-2 TEAM BINY has taken a couple of tough losses, but come playoff time you can expect this team to challenge for the title. If (G) Tony Cuadrado can get playoff eligible, he bolsters a deep roster of guards.
(=) NGC 3-2 Solid season for (F) Steven Chung, he’s shooting more consistently for NYC GRITTY COMMITTEE than he has in awhile. NGC is never a deep team, but they have personnel who could move this team up.
(=) SNB 2-3 SMASH N BOUNCE is in solid playoff position with wins over WSW and NET, but they can do themselves a big favor with one more win. It won’t be easy, playing all Top 4 teams the remainder of the season..
(=) WSW 1-2 WHAT IS A SEAWOLF? keeps getting their games pushed due to some bad luck, but they have an MVP candidate, too, in (G) Tommy Zheng, if they can just win some games now.
(=) NET 0-6 This certainly isn’t the result the NASTY NETS were hoping for, but it’s all about getting reps with the team. Even the defending champion DYN took several seasons before they could contend.
