TDL Summer 2016 Week 1 & 2 Results (D1 SUN)

WEEK 2

ISS Flightz (0-1) 36
SK War Dog (2-0) 52
Sun (7/17) 11am at Graphics HS Boxscore
Player of the Game: Dave Wong (SKW) 18 pts, 4 reb

RECAP: The ISS Flightz missed most of the 1st qtr of this game, which put SK War Dog on the line shooting technical FTs until they arrived. That left ISS with a 0-13 deficit to start the game. For their part, ISS fought hard to get back into it, but never could get over the hump. ISS (F) Jeffrey “Birdman” Lam shot well, but they just couldn’t produce enough offense to overcome the deficit. The Flightz defended (G) Pat Youreneff well, holding him to just 7 pts on 0-10 FGs, but they couldn’t contain (G) “Vegas” Dave Wong who scored a game-high 18 pts in the win.

Shawty Likes the Way (1-1) 52
Free Agents (1-0) 77
Sun (7/17) 2pm at Graphics HS Boxscore
Player of the Game: S. Salar (FAS) 16 pts, 14 reb

RECAP: Last week Shawty Likes the Way I Ball Out was able to get (G) Deric Kung going early from the perimeter to keep them in range to close out a defense-oriented win. But this week, Kung shot just 1-11 and the SHA offense never quite got it going against a more physical defense from the Free Agents. With freedom to run a point forward kind of role (F) Sherwin Salar put up a signature all-around game with 16 pts, 14 reb, 7 ast. But there was good ball movement up and down the roster as FAS shot a scorching 51% from the field. Even with SHA (F) Sam Lu getting more aggressive in the 2nd half, they couldn’t keep pace with a red hot FAS squad.

Raining Rosebuds (0-2) 51
Yung No Fly Zone (1-1) 61
Sun (7/17) 3pm at Graphics HS Boxscore
Player of the Game: Mike Reding (NFZ) 22 pts, 10 reb

RECAP: After last week’s loss, Raining Rosebuds (G) Joseph Jaffee got offensive help from (G) Miguel Melbourne and (F) Mitch Moxley. Even if neither of them went off, their presence helped structure RAR’s offense, and helped new additions fill in better. But this game was decided by Yung No Fly Zone’s relentless offensive attack. Every time it seemed as if RAR would make a run to close within single digits, NFZ would make a big 3FG or find a layup in transition. New add (G) Sal Nasser fit in perfectly with NFZ’s attacking style and (F) Mike Reding was deadly as usual. (G) Ren Hsieh, called up for the short-handed roster, also helped NFZ close out late.

WEEK 1

SK War Dog (1-0) 52
Raining Rosebuds (0-1) 32
Sun (7/10) 12pm at Graphics HS Boxscore
Player of the Game: Dave Wong (SKW) 21 pts, 3 reb

RECAP: With no big men and no established shooters available, the Raining Rosebuds were simply outmatched, even against the aging 5-man roster of SK War Dog. RAR (G) Joseph Jaffee, one of the league’s best facilitators and versatile PGs was thrust into the position to shoot more than he might be comfortable with as RAR worked in new players. And nobody was able to get it going as RAR shot a paltry .196 from the field. Meanwhile, the continuous wave of offensive attack from (G) Dave Wong and (G) Pat Youreneff finally broke the seal in the 2nd half as SKW cruised to victory.

Shawty Likes the Way (1-0) 48
No Fly Zone (0-1) 42
Sun (7/10) 2pm at Graphics HS Boxscore
Player of the Game: Deric Kung (SHA) 21 pts, 7 3FGs

RECAP: This was an historically ugly game for Yung No Fly Zone, shooting a franchise worst 2-29 from behind the arc, with sharp-shooter (F) Saleem Ahmed going 0-9, and 0-11 from the field. But NFZ defended well enough to win this game, except that they let Shawty Likes the Way I Ball Out (G) Deric Kung get hot. And once he got there, nothing NFZ could do would cool him off. Nevertheless, NFZ had chances to win this game, but uncharacteristically poor clock management did them in as SHA (F) Sam Lu closed this one out at the FT line.
