TDL Winter 2017 Week 7 Power Rankings

1ST DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=) SKW 3-1 SK WAR DOG played only one game in the past three weeks due to schedule adjustments, but it was a win so they’ll hold onto the top spot for now.
(=) NFZ 4-1 Looks like YUNG NO FLY ZONE is hitting their stride. With balanced scoring from all positions, they haven’t needed (F) Michael Reding to play hero ball. Like SKW, they have a lot of weapons they can go to.
(+2) ADG 4-2 ADAM D GAMBLERS have appeared to turn the corner as well, winning 3 of their last 4. This is the best defense in D1, and (F) Richard Schuler had a break out game last week with 26 pts, a season-high.
(-1) LIZ 2-2 Not sure what to make of THE LIZARDS just yet. (G) Joe Zenz puts up solid numbers, but they don’t seem to get enough scoring yet to win consistently. Getting (F) Nat Schacht to more games might help.
(+1) SKK 2-3 Just when it seemed like SHAWN KEMP’S KIDS’ season was going down the drain, they got a huge win over LMA last week. There are a bunch of teams at spots 4-7 with similar records, so one more win might not be enough. Win out to be safe.
(-2)
LMA
1-3 LACE’O MY ASO was regarded as a contender coming into the season, with a fully loaded roster. But for whatever reason, the wins just haven’t fallen their way like they did last season. Maybe teams see them coming now, but with 3 games left, they still have a chance to turn it around.
(=) STM 2-2 Mathematically, STRANGER TEAM is in a better position than the #5 & #6 ranked teams, but we’re not convinced just yet. Last season wasn’t a good indicator, but (G) Dylan Rafferty has scored well this season, and (F) Chris Tsatsis gives them an athleticism they didn’t have before.
(=) RAR 1-5 At this point, the RAINING ROSEBUDS have to win their last game vs LMA and hope for the best. It was a tough season after a strong showing last winter.

2ND DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=) BOM 4-1 BOMB SQUAD is still the team to beat. They’re the defending champs and their new personnel has fit in well enough. They key here is really their comfort level playing together, they never have a doubt.
(-1) FOB 4-1 This is the opposite of a lot of past GRITTY FOB CITY seasons. They have found a way to win games while juggling a completely inconsistent roster. Who will lead their playoff roster? That’s the big question.
(+1) SXP 3-1 The SEX PANTHERS are only one season removed from back-to-back titles, so they’re well in the mix here. (F) Chris Di is playing at an MVP clip right now. This is the deepest roster of guards they’ve ever had.
(+7) NFZ 3-2 How does NO FLY ZONE OG jump seven spots to #4 in 3 weeks? The addition of (F) Phil Thomas, likely the division’s most athletic player. Thomas bolsters every short-coming NFZ had, age, old legs, a finisher. He makes NFZ an instant contender now.
(=) BRI 3-2 It’s slow and steady for the NY BRICKS. They don’t score a lot of (just 49 ppg), but they play great defense and have balanced scoring. (G) Eric Kim is still the catalyst, but the tireless work of (G) Andrew Tu, (F) Tim Zhang, and the whole roster really, is the difference.
(+2)
WOL
3-2 The WOLVERINES have been all over the place this season, putting up two disappointing losses to BOM and SPR before bouncing back with a blowout win over GOA. (G) Nickolas Abrapour really is the x-factor here. If he can play efficiently and fit in, this team can win it all.
(+1) TAP 2-3 TAP NY has hung in there, they have a great chance to make the playoffs with a win over SPR this Sunday. The pieces are all there, it’s a matter of coalescing, and getting (F) Jin Bae Kim more involved. This is as deep a TAP roster as they’ve ever had.
(-1) ROV 2-4 Rookie (F) Emeka Okafor has played well for RICE IN OUR VEINS, but they need (F) Sam Lu. He’s their most versatile defender and scorer. With Okafor, Lu and the ROV guards attacking the paint, and (G) Deric Kung at the 3-pt line, this team should be better than 2-4.
(-3) TEA 1-3 It’s been a weird season for TEAL CURTAIN, they’ve taken a couple of unexpected losses, but they’ve only played four games. So this season is very salvageable at this point. Total coin flip here.
10 (=) SPR 2-4 SPAGHETTI RAMEN is not out of it yet. They still have a chance to take the 9th and last playoff spot. (G) Ryan Chong was supposed to be the offensive lift they needed, but he hasn’t shot well yet. But if his MVP performance in PAAG ’16 is any indication, he can get there.
11 (-2) NYU 1-3 To this point, NYUNITED still hasn’t quite decided on its full roster yet. Plus, the instability of their composure in every game leaves them a complete wild card. (G) Nakami Morrison is still the most dangerous player in D2, but NYU needs to give him a chance.
12 (=) GOA 2-4 The GOAT HERDERS stay at #12 this week, but they’re not out of it just yet. If they can win their last game vs FOB, they’ll have to hope for a few key losses from other playoff contenders, but they’re still alive.

3RD DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=)
JPU
4-0 JAPAN UNITED played only one game in the past three weeks due to schedule adjustments, so they stay #1 for now. But this marquee match up of the season comes this Sunday vs STR.
(=) STR 5-0 New additions (G) Anthony Williams and (C) Terrell Wheeler are more help than STREET DREAMS probably needed, but the secret to their success this season has been (F) Neil Dumadag‘s dominance on the defensive end.
(+2) BLO 4-1 After a season-opening loss to NFU, THE BLOUSES have come out of nowhere to win 4 straight and take the #3 spot. They have arguably D3’s best shooter in (G) Mark Feeney, and (G) Brent Morita is the perfect veteran PG to run the show.
(-1) NFU 4-2 NY FALCONS U was beginning to look like a team that just might challenge JPU or STR for title contention. Then STR dismantled them in Week 7. How they bounce back from this loss will determine whether they can really contend for the chip.
(+1) POG 3-3 Three straight losses had POGI POINTS looking like a big pretender, despite a talented roster. Then POG blew up all over CRU in Week 7, showing just what this team is capable of. And if they can play like this consistently, they might be a contender.
(-2) CRU 2-4 It’s been a disappointing few weeks for THE CRUSTACEANS. After two solid wins, four straight losses, all close until the blowout loss to POG last week. They still have a chance to clinch a playoff spot with a win this week vs PAN.
(=) PAN 2-4 Like CRU above them, THE PANDAS haven’t had a great season, but they can clinch a playoff spot with a win this Sunday. Otherwise they’ll have to hope for the best and let the math play out. Tough to diagnose what’s going on here, they’ve been close in most losses.
(=) GOO 2-4 After picking up two wins to keep playoff hopes alive GOON SQUAD dropped a winnable game to LIF in Week 7. They’ll have to win a tough one vs BLO to ensure a post-season bid. They’ll rely on 3-pt bombs away from (G) Bob Zhang and (G) Charles Zheng
(+1) LIF 1-4 The win last week keeps LET IT FLY‘s playoff hopes alive. Two more wins guarantee a bid, one more will keep them in the mix, but they absolutely must beat SON this Sunday. They have to get that shooting percentage above to 26% to really stand a chance.
10 (-1) SON 0-5 Unfortunately, the SUPERSONICS are now mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. They were the only team in D3 without one double-digit scorer on the roster, but they’ve been competitive in many of their losses. They saw some tough breaks this season.

TDL Winter 2017 Week 7 Power Rankings (All Weeknight Divisions)

PREMIER DIVISION

Rank Team Record Comments
(+2)
MWW
5-1 The more things change, the more they stay the same. METTA WORLD WAR is back in top billing. (G) Shamel Arasmo is starting to pick it up now, but it’s the glue-guy effort of capt (F) Kareem Merrick, (F) Nick Pelletier and (F) Gus David that keep this thing running.
(+2) DYN 4-1 This has been kind of a surprise season for NY DYNASTY. They have won some pretty unlikely games, but the new adds have fit in well, and (G/F) Will Haile is playing some vintage ball right now..
(+2) FKA
3-2 This shouldn’t be this much of a surprise, but after a rocky start, newbies F.K.A.L.J.s are finally looking like a dark horse contender. Much of that is due to the break out play of (F) Tom Killiam, who has lit it up in their last two wins. Sleep at your own risk.
(-2) WHG 3-3 Life comes at you fast. Just three weeks ago, WE HAD GAME was one more solid win away from a #1 ranking. Instead they’ve lost two straight. Not time to panic yet, though, both were winnable games. In fact, they probably should have won in each instance.
(-4) SIX 3-3 TEAM SIX has lost 3 straight, which has never happened in franchise’s history. At full strength, this team is still a contender, but it’s hard to say what’s full strength at this point. They need a shot in the arm.
(=) COL 1-3 Last week, TEAM COLISEUM got their first win of the season and that’s all it took to secure a playoff spot. Whether or not they make any noise in the playoffs, however, will depend on how much momentum they can build off this win.
(=) GMM 0-6 With their loss last week, GUARD ME MAYBE is officially out of playoff contention having lost to every team in Premier this season. (G) Donnell Mitchell was one of the most exciting players to watch this season but the team just couldn’t get together enough to squeeze into the playoffs. .

1ST DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=) SPA 4-0 What NYK SPARTANS (F) Young Song is doing this season is just ridiculous. 30.5 ppg on 72% shooting. Go ahead and engrave that MVP award. Chalk it up to not knowing any better if you want, but if you’re not game-planning for Song at this point, what are you doing?
(=) ASN 4-0 ASPHALT NINJAS (C) Rigo Sargeant may or may not make the playoff roster, but this team is better due to (G/F) Kev Chang. A bona fide scorer in D1 for years, he gives ASN the heady slasher/finisher they needed. Also, don’t sleep on (G) Derrick Shich‘s much improved play.
(=)
HON
4-1 HONEY BADGERS had a chance to move back up to #1 but they lost a close one to SPA, their first of the season. And that was without (G) Alex Tsay and (C) Kanem Johnson in the lineup.  This is still top tier.
(=) JLA 3-2 If there were any doubts JUSTICE LEAGUE could compete in D1, put ’em away. This undersized team just out-works you. The only team in D1 with two players in Top 5 rebounding, and one is basically an SG playing SF. They’re streaky, but if they got hot from 3, they can beat anyone.
(=) OPA 2-4 OPTION A has secured a playoff spot so they can rest easy on that end. But they still have yet to prove they can beat a top tier team, which they haven’t done, despite having the size and talent to do it. This team could be a sleeper if they start getting hot right now.
(-2) TOP 0-5 For TOP STARS, making the post-season all depends on their match-up with ALL next week Mar 9. Essentially, it’s a play-in game. The defending champs need this win to even have a chance at defending their title.
(=) ALL 0-5 As mentioned above, this is the game ALL NET needs to circle on their calendars. March 9. Win and they’re in. In a single-elimination playoffs, anything is possible after that.

2ND DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=) NYR 5-0 For the first time, the NY ROCKITS looked vulnerable against a DYN team playing short-handed. But they won, and they’re undefeated, and (G) Kyle Lew and (G) Dennis Liew are playing very efficient ball. So until proven otherwise, this is the team to beat.
(+1) DYN 4-2 They are old, and they’re shooting is wildly inconsistent, but if they’re at the top of their game, the NY DYNASTY can be the best team in D2. But that’s a big IF. One thing is for sure, they’re getting consistent great play from (G) Drew Chen. He just isn’t the scorer.
(-1)
NGC
2-2 NYC GRITTY COMMITTEE lost a close one to DYN, but they looked good for most of that game. NYR is in a tier of its own right now, but the second tier is a toss-up between DYN and Gritty.
(+2) DPY 3-2 You gotta give it up to DON’T EVER PLAY YOURSELF. DPY was not a winning team coming into this season. They made some roster changes and despite a slow start, it looks like they may be hitting their stride.
(-1) JUN 2-2 They have some very solid pieces, but THE JUNKIES need some more consistency on their roster. At their best, they can beat any team in this division, they showed that with a win over DYN. But that loss to DPY was underwhelming, unless we have both teams pegged all wrong.
(=) GMM 2-4 GUARD ME MAYBE needed a win to stay in, and they got it. GMM still needs to figure who’s gonna score for them–they average a paltry 44.2 ppg as a team–but for now, at least they know they’re playoff bound.
(=) JAM 0-6 SPACE JAM needed to beat GMM last week to stay in the playoff hunt. It went down to the wire, but the Jammers fell just short. It was a season that really could have gone either way for JAM, a lot of close games they will be thinking about for next season.

3RD DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=)
SPR
5-1 This team is unbreakable with (G) Leuis Ng on the floor. SPAGHETTI RAMEN is an unquestionable dynasty, and the key to their maintained dominance this season has been the rising play of (F) Matt Auerbach, who should get some MVP consideration.
(=) SKL 4-2 SKILLSHARE is still the most stacked team in D3, and now that (G) Michael Hamane has been available, they have a considerable amount of firepower. But, then they took a baffling loss to GOZ last week. We’ll say that’s the outlier, everyone has an off night.
(+1) NYE 4-1 If SKL is the most stacked team in D3, NYCE is a close second. This team is pretty over-sized for D3, but they’re relatively new and don’t quite have the consistency yet. Nevertheless, they’ve won four straight.
(-1) DYN
2-2 The NY DYNASTY got a rude awakening from SPR in a blowout loss. After solid efforts to start 2-1, they simply looked out-classed by Ramen. They do have the division’s top scorer in (G) David Chu, but their age shows up most glaringly on the defensive end.
(=) GOZ 2-4 When you look back to figure out where the turning point was for GAME OF ZONES, look at (G) Tommy Zheng finally joining the roster. Able to score from deep, go off the bounce, and convert at the FT line, Zheng gives GOZ the consistent scorer they’ve needed all season.
(=) 30F 1-3 They’ve lost three straight, but every one of these games was a close one, so don’t go counting 30-FOR-30 out yet. If they beat LG3 next week, they’ll clinch a playoff spot, where they just may make some noise.
(=) LG3 0-5 LG FOR 3 hasn’t had much consistency on their roster, but they still have a chance to clinch a playoff berth if they can beat 30F next week. Basically, the playoffs have already started for LG3.

TDL Winter 2017 Week 4 Power Rankings (All Sunday Divisions)

1ST DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(+3) SKW 2-1 Two seasons ago, they were back back-to-back champs. Now, SK WAR DOG is back at the top of the rankings. And (G) Kash Miah isn’t even close to 100% back yet from a knee injury. It’s seasons like this that make you think they never age. A 40+ year old guard is scoring 23 ppg.
(=) NFZ 2-1 After a season opening loss to SKW, it looks like YUNG NO FLY ZONE is finding it’s groove now. The Flyers are undersized with sneaky athletic wings, but it’s their added physicality in the paint with new member (F) Sherwin Salar that has made the most obvious difference.
(=) LIZ 2-1 THE LIZARDS are carrying a lot of new faces, but they hung up two impressive wins before an uncharacteristic loss in Week 4. But with (G) Joe Zenz at the helm and shooter (G) Christian Jordan, this is a solid back court. Getting (F) Nat Schacht back doesn’t hurt either.
(-3)
LMA
1-2 LACE’O MY ASO completely dismantled ADG in their opener, but now they’ve taken two straight losses by 20 pts to D1’s top two teams. Teams are starting to key in on reigning MVP (G) Mathew Joshy now, but this team has all the personnel it needs to contend. They must bounce back.
(+2) ADG 2-1 Carrying a ton of size and deep roster, ADAM D GAMBLERS has all the pieces they need. They will never be the faster team, but their size can punish opponents. So far their 3-pt shooting has not helped much, but if those shots start dropping, this team can move all the way up.
(=) SKK 1-2 After a much-needed first win, SHAWN KEMP’S KIDS can settle in a little now. When (C) Graham Diamond is able to make his presence felt on offense (and D), SKK is very tough. But someone needs to step up as a consistent secondary scorer to (G) Donovan Walsh.
(+1) STM 1-2 STRANGER TEAM is young and has good speed in the open court, where (G) Dylan Rafferty has been fearless. STM has multiple double digit scorers, but they struggle to get stops when they need them. They could also use a consistent 3-pt shooter to spread the floor.
(-3) RAR 1-2 After consecutive losses, the RAINING ROSEBUDS need to bounce back with a solid effort this week vs SKW. The team isn’t shooting well right now, scoring just 49 ppg. That’s just not going to be enough to win consistently with their relative lack of size on the roster.

2ND DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(+1) BOM 2-1 We’re still not clear yet on who exactly is on the roster and who isn’t, but BOMB SQUAD absolutely roasted former #1 WOL. Even without (F) Joseph Bravo on the roster, this is a big, physical team that knows how to finish games. They have repeat chip on their minds.
(-1)
WOL
2-1 For the WOLVERINES, it all depends on whether their shots are falling. The defensive effort is always there. The blowout loss to BOM in Wk 4 was a shocker. We’ll call that the outlier for now. The key for WOL is getting (G) Nick Abrapour to play well and fit in.
(=) FOB 3-0 Three games, three wins. Though the last one was not very convincing. GRITTY FOB CITY looked on their way to losing to NYU before the latter team threw it away with unsportsmanlike conduct. Nevertheless, here FOB City stands at 3-0.
(+1) SXP 2-1 The SEX PANTHERS could just as easily be 3-0 if not for squandering a lead to WOL. Backcourt trio of (G) David Chu, (G) Greg Loeffert, and (G) Caleb Lui is D2’s most formidable. And (F) Chris Di has been their best player so far this season, maybe in all of D2.
(+1) BRI 2-2 The NY BRICKS have been working in some new personnel, but they look on the verge of turning the corner into possible contender. Scoring has been balanced from their Top 3, but overall points is not where it should be. 49 ppg won’t get it done for this undersized team.
(+2) TEA 1-1 TEAL CURTAIN has played only two games so far, but with (F) Noah Scovronick on the floor, these guys are just so tough to beat. He is the best low-post scorer in the league, and the team plays with that much more confidence when he’s on the floor.
(-2) ROV 2-1 RICE IN OUR VEINS is in decent position with two wins under their belt, but to move up, they have to beat some Top 5 teams. This is a guard heavy team with plenty of firepower, the could have very well won the Week 2 match-up with TEA with a full roster.
(-1) TAP 1-2 They got a couple of tough losses, but TAP NY have been right there this season. (F) Dave Liu has been a solid pick up, but TAP hasn’t been able to get (F) Jin Bae Kim involved as much as they’d like. Luckily, (G) Will Chu is playing at a high level right now.
(+3) NYU 1-2 Even into Week 4, NYUNITED‘s roster is still in a state of flux. But with (G) Nakami Morrison at the helm, and now (F) Richard Sun back in the lineup, this will be a tough team that should move up. Assuming they can stop forfeiting games.
10 (=) SPR 1-3 SPAGHETTI RAMEN got a much-needed win vs NFZ in Wk 3, but then gave up a heart-breaker to SXP in Wk 4. They are in must-win territory now at 1-3. But the last team you want to count out is Ramen. It’s a tough road ahead, but all are winnable games.
11 (=) NFZ 1-2 NO FLY ZONE OG finally got off the shneid with their first win of the season vs GOA in Wk 4. The big change? Adding (F) Phil Thomas. The aging Flyers needed athleticism, scoring & back line defense, basically everything. And in Thomas, they get the complete package.
12 (-4) GOA 1-3 Last season, the GOAT HERDERS looked like a team on the verge of contending. Then (C) Frank Ward went down to injury. Replacement (F) Andrea Kormosis is a next level scorer, but GOA needs to develop some chemistry with him. And time is short.

3RD DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=)
JPU
3-0 JAPAN UNITED continues to play small ball, but they’re very good at it. (G) Ryota Takahashi is emerging as an MVP candidate this season (as he should be). And the addition of (F) Shinto Sato has given them even more depth. This is a very good D3 team.
(=) STR 3-0 They may have to tweak their roster, but STREET DREAMS is more like a #1.25 than #2. Reigning MVP (G) Miguel Melbourne is putting in the usual work, and (F) Neil Dumadag is thriving this season.
(+3) FAL 2-1 This is a young team, but the NY FALCONS U have solid height and athleticism. (F) Jeff Zhang is a match-up problem for most teams in D3. And they get balanced scoring in the 7-8 ppg range from their next 5 players. This is a deep roster that plays efficiently.
(=) CRU 2-2 After two straight wins, THE CRUSTACEANS picked up two straight losses, but the reason they’re still in the Top 4 is those losses came to JPU and STR, #1 and #2 respectively. They took both teams to the final buzzer. If CRU can start closing games like that, they will contend.
(+3) BLO 2-1 THE BLOUSES bounced back from a Wk 1 loss to look very good in their two wins. (G) Mark Feeney has been lights out from the 3-pt line in that stretch. (G) Roswell Lo gives them a solid option attacking the basket. This team could make some noise.
(-3) POG 2-1 After an impressive start to the season, POGI POINTS got blasted by BLO in Wk 3. Throwaway game? Maybe. (G) Gio Panlileo has looked like a reliable scoring option, but somehow they need more from (F) Jin Bae Kim. He’s been efficient, but something seems to be missing.
(-2) PAN 1-2 They’ve looked uneven this season, but THE PANDAS are working in some new players, so that might be the reason. This is a team that has plenty of firepower on paper, but they need better decisions right now all around, 16.7 topg does not a contender make.
(-1) GOO 1-2 GOON SQUAD scorer (G) Charles Zheng has been off this season. And they haven’t had anyone else step up. Zheng did put up 18 pts in a much-needed Wk 4 win vs SON, so that’s a testament to what they can do when he is scoring. GOO is still very alive for playoffs.
(=) SON 0-3 Two solid efforts to start the season for the SUPERSONICS, but then a clunker to GOO that was almost a must-win scenario. They will be competing with GOO for that last playoff spot. SON needs scoring help.
10 (=) LIF 0-4 Somehow, someway, LET IT FLY has gotta get a win. They should be better than 0-4. Mathematically, they aren’t eliminated from playoff contention yet, but they have to turn this around now.
