RECAP: This just hasn’t been No Fly Zone’s season, and they will miss the playoffs for only the second time in franchise history. It has, on the other hand, been every bit as much the Dirk Digglers’ season. Few teams (if any) are playing as cohesively on offense.
RECAP: No (G) Caleb Lui and (F) Derek Lu for Splappa meant (G) Kevin Lee and (F) Pierre Riddle were left to take this slap in the face on their own. Lui and Lu should owe them one for this. Ball So Hard basically messed around and won by 23. (F) Jerry Ho led the way with 20 pts on 6 3FGs.
Player of the Game: Mike Meng (WOL) 21 pts, 11 reb
RECAP: Raptors (G) James Han showed up late but when finally made it, he sure helped make a game out of this one with a season-high 25 pts. RAP (F) Alvin Kong also chipped in 17 pts, 10 reb. But ultimately, RAP couldn’t keep Wolverines (C) Mike Meng and (F) Nick Liveris in check as the duo combined for 35 pts, 21 reb. But give it up for WOL (G) Anthony Liveris who topped them all with 13 boards.
RECAP: The game of the season. Sex Panthers jumped out to an early 27-11 lead, but Supreme Team never let up. Playing with their signature intensity, they went into half time down 32-25. SXP held serve in the 3rd qtr, leading by as much as 20 before SUP came back again. In the 4th qtr, the floodgates finally opened as SUP picked apart SXP’s zone, first at the high-post, then with three (G) Ryan Kim 3FGs in the final minutes that gave SUP the lead. SXP had chances to make up the difference, but the shots just didn’t fall.
Until they are unseeded as the defending champs, they will get the benefit of the doubt here. Ball So Hard‘s front court is arguably the toughest in D-2. Their back court may not put up the big numbers, but they have come through time and time again. This is the team to beat.

SUP
4-1
What a season for the Supreme Team. Tired of missing the playoffs, SUP went out and picked up two key players, (G) Jeff Syham and (C) Max Choi. The turnaround has been fast. Syham has ably run the team, and having another Choi brother is always a good thing. And now, SUP has already clinched their first franchise playoff bid.
3 (n/a)
TEA
4-2
When the dust settles, the Teal Curtain will be the top contender out of the Western Conference to challenge BSH. They’re scrappy on D, they have more team height than any other team with solid back court play, and (F) Noah Scovronick is simply unstoppable in the paint in this division. This is a team built for playoff success.
4 (n/a)
FOB
3-3
Gritty FOB City has been here time and again, a middle of the pack team with plenty of playoff experience. All they need to do is get hot to make some noise. If they can lock in a playoff spot. Truth is, they haven’t been dangerous very often this season, but (C) Victor Chia has been putting up one of his best career seasons.
5 (n/a)
THU
2-3
Somewhat like FOB, this is a veteran team that has found itself in the middle of the pack, but they’re not exactly used to this. The TX Thunder are perennial contenders, but this season has had some bumps in the road. Still, if they can just make the playoffs, they’re always a threat to get it together for a deep post-season run.
6 (n/a)
WOL
2-4
The Wolverines will have to win and hope for the best (meaning hope the THU lose out). This has always been a team that has showed their best work in the post-season. With their size and focus on defense, they are well suited for the playoffs, but the regular season hasn’t gone their way often this time around.
7 (n/a)
GOA
0-6
It’s been a lost season for the Goat Herders who never quite got it all together. They’ve had scoring, and some spurts of defense, but never all at once, and never enough to get a win. They have one more chance to at least get a mark in the win column.

DRK
5-0
The Dirk Digglers are the surprise team of the season, even with their appearance in the championship last season. With no roster additions, this team became a dominant force this spring, plowing their way back to another title shot. And it’s not as if it’s one or two players dominating, this is a team possessed. They simply find a way to win.
2 (n/a)
SPL
4-1
If it weren’t for DRK, then Splappa might be the surprise team of the East. After failing to make the playoffs last season, they got it together this spring and have been the winning team that was expected of them. (F) Pierre Riddle is unstoppable on the boards and (G) Caleb Lui and (G) Derek Lu is as tough a back court as any in D-2.
3 (n/a)
SXP
4-2
When the Sex Panthers are bad, they look their age, when they’re good, they look too good. No other legit D-2 team in history has scored 99 pts in a game, and that’s exactly what SXP did last week vs NFZ. When they are on their game, and not their age, this team is unbeatable. They might still be the best contender out of the East to beat BSH.
4 (n/a)
FLY
3-2
If the Flying Fairies can lock in their playoff spot, they can make some noise. They have size, experience, and a deep roster. If they make a strong commitment to defense, they have the potential to pull off some upsets. But (F) Kevin Quach will have to make it to games, and play better than he has.
5 (n/a)
RAP
1-4
Poor play in the back line of the East has left this last playoff spot wide open for anyone who wants it. The Raptors could very well take it, and as they showed last season, they are very capable of knocking off a top seeded team when they get hot. If they win, they’ll get another chance.
6 (n/a)
TAP
1-4
It’s been a weird season for TAP NY, they just haven’t played like the team we’ve gotten used to. But for whatever reason that may be, they still have a chance to win out and get a playoff spot. (C) Jordan Carr has been a great add, but (G) Will Chu and (G) John Hsu‘s combined ppg it the lowest it’s been in what seems like several seasons.
7 (n/a)
NFZ
1-5
Injuries, age, roster inconsistency, it’s all added up to a lost season for No Fly Zone OG this season. It hasn’t been pretty, while putting up a decent 52.5 ppg, they’ve given up a league-high 68 ppg.
Player of the Game: David Chu (FAS) 34 pts, 9 3FGs
RECAP: It was a barrage of threes that gave Raining Rosebuds as much as a 20-pt lead in the 1st half. They led 44-27 at halftime, but the Free Agents didn’t fold. They put on their own 3-point assault, led by (G) David Chu, who made a season-high 9 3FGs to help his team outscore RAR 52-25 in the 2nd half, the most scored by any 1st Division team in a single half. FAS (C) Mike Song put up his best performance this season with a 19 pts, 10 reb double-double, and (F) Sekani Thompson had yet another great all-around game.
Player of the Game: Mike Reding (NFZ) 22 pts, 13 reb
RECAP: The Asphalt Ninjas played zone for most of this game, which if history has shown, is a bad idea against the very flammable Yung No Fly Zone side. Surprisingly, NFZ didn’t shoot very well, but their work on the offensive glass gave them plenty of second chances. ASN (F) Chi Ming Pun was the only viable offensive option for the Ninjas until a late flurry of 3FGs from (G) Justin Chin. (C) Ibu LeGrande‘s second arrival gave ASN a boost in the 2nd half, but it wasn’t enough to slow the red hot Flyers.
RECAP: With both teams playing with just five players, X1 was able to keep this one tight down to the very end of regulation, forcing an extra period to decide it. Shawty (G) Ryan Chan and (G) Justin Kiat both had their best performances of the season, so far, to help SHA get the win. X1 (C) Michael Boord followed up a strong outing last week with another one this week. (G) Rhod Vivas and (F) Greg Francisco also shot well in the game, but X1 just wasn’t able to muster up the makes they needed to hold on in OT.
RECAP: Teal Curtain’s backcourt (G) Ian Zack and (G) Alex Gochal is one of the best duos in the league, but it’s been (F) Noah Scovronick that’s helped make them the dominant team they’ve been this season. And he wasn’t available for this game. With Scovronick out of the lineup, Gritty FOB City was able to dictate the tempo, and force TEA to adjust and readjust their defense. Both (G) David Ri and (G) Steven Chung played well, which isn’t always the case, and with (C) Victor Chia facilitating, that was enough to get the edge in this win that keeps them alive for the playoffs.
RECAP: With (G) Derik Kumagai essentially shutting it down for the season, and no playoff prospects, No Fly Zone OG didn’t play with the kind of urgency they needed against a fully loaded Sex Panthers team. They were simply outmatched right from the tip. The Panthers were clicking on all cylinders, dominating at every turn, and making shots. They simply overwhelmed a NFZ team that found itself shrugging its team shoulders more and more as the game wore on.
Player of the Game: Jeff Syham (SUP) 15 pts, 7 reb
RECAP: After this decision, it’s not clear who should feel better. Supreme Team has had a big run, and this is the first team they’ve beaten this season with championship pedigree. They gutted out a tough win down the wire. On the other hand, the Thunder had a chance to win this while playing without two key starters, former MVP (G) Leuis Ng and (F) Kenneth Van.
Player of the Game: A. Liveris (WOL) 13 pts, 5 ast, 4 stl
RECAP: Neither team saw particularly good shooting, but the Wolverines seemed to control this game until FOB City (G) Brent Morita led his team on a 11-0 run in the 4th qtr to take the lead. It took a big three from WOL (C) Mike Meng to force OT. Gritty would score first but (G) Anthony Liveris go-ahead 3FG gave WOL the 1-pt win in a narrow escape.
RECAP: The truth is, the Goat Herders have offense. Even without (C) Gus Konidas in the lineup, they got 19 pts out of (F) Pete Tsevdos. But defensively, they’ve struggled all season. And with frustration on the defensive end, forced shots on offense tend to go up. Ball So Hard (F) Sherwin Salar ate up GOA’s defense inside and out. With balanced scoring down the rest of the roster, this was easy pickings.
Player of the Game: Derek Lu (SPL) 20 pts, 9 reb, 7 ast
RECAP: Before the Raptors even knew what hit them, Splappa was leading 41-13 at the half. But, even midway through the 2nd qtr, it wasn’t that bad. RAP didn’t look far off, but 11 1st half TOs later and it was over. Splappa has become a team you can’t give away possessions, and RAP did so freely with just flat out poor decision-making. SPL gave 13 TOs back in the 2nd half, but it was already over by then.
Player of the Game: Jim Liu (DRK) 18 pts, 7 reb, 1 stl
RECAP: If you’re not ready to play early on with the Dirk Digglers, get ready for a long day ahead. TAP found out the hard way, trailing 41-23 by halftime. Even after DRK (G) Eric Kim going down in the 3rd qtr, the Digglers had more than enough left to dispatch a TAP NY team that has struggled this season.
Player of the Game: Chris Di (SXP) 25 pts, 10 reb, 2 stl
RECAP: The Sex Panthers got off to a fast start and that always helps this veteran squad. They’re one of the best teams in the league playing with a lead. Flying Fairies never got anything going until the 2nd half. But they never had an answer for (F) Chris Di in the paint, putting a vintage display of scoring efficiency.
(C) Joseph Bravo (BSH) 6-6-3-1-1
(G) Ren Hsieh (NFZ) 10-3-2-2-1
(F) Jon Lau (NFZ) 10-10-2-3-4
(G) John Lee (THU) 5-3-3-2-1
(F) Nick Liveris (WOL) 13-6-2-3-1
(F) David Ri (FOB) 7-3-1-2-1
WEEK 4 LEAGUE-HIGHS
Points: Noah Scovronick (TEA) 21, Leuis Ng (THU) 20 3FGs: Ryan Kim (SUP) 5, Willyo Chen (FLY) 4 Rebounds: Karl Ngok (FLY) 15, Garth Grillo (RAP) 13 Assists: Eric Kim (DRK) 7, David Chu (SXP) 6, Rob Go (THU) 6 Steals: Rob Go (THU) 5, [3 players] 4 Blocks: Jon Lau (NFZ) 4, Rafael Martinez (NFZ) 2
RECAP: With no (F) Mark Hahn to contend with the size and defensive physicality of the Wolverines, Thunder captain (G) Leuis Ng tried to use his speed to his team’s advantage as often as possible. WOL still was able to keep the tempo within their wheelhouse, but Ng’s play-making down the stretch put the game out of reach.
RECAP: A solid well-rounded effort from Ball So Hard hands Gritty FOB City their second loss of the season. FOB City’s (G) David Ri and (F) Steven Chung never quite got the shot going, which will always limit FOB’s offensive output. (G) Hans Tsai returned to the BSH line-up but was quiet in limited minutes.
RECAP: The Sex Panthers would be the first to admit they struggle with faster, younger teams. And the Dirk Digglers are exactly that, winning their 4th straight game by using their frenetic defense and speed in transition. The Panthers just seemed to uncharacteristically lose their composure to a Digglers team that has come a long way, with their eyes set on a title run.
Player of the Game: Alvin Kong (RAP) 19 pts, 9 reb
RECAP: The Raptors have always been a more physical team, and TAP doesn’t always handle that kind of physicality well. Both teams tend to go on offensive dy spells, which gave TAP a chance late in the 2nd half, but the Raptors were able to will their way to a win.
Player of the Game: Henry Quach (FLY) 19 pts, 10 reb
RECAP: This just isn’t No Fly Zone’s season. It’s been one injury after another and with no (G) Derik Kumagai and no (F) Young Wang to hold down the paint, they didn’t have much chance against a bigger Flying Fairies team. FLY didn’t shoot well, but dominated the offensive glass, epitomized by (F) Henry Quach‘s 19 pts on 22 attempts, with 10 rebounds.
RECAP: Undefeated Teal Curtain looked like an unstoppable juggernaut coming in but they were also short-handed with just 5 available players. Supreme Team’s deep bench put TEA to the test as their front-line of (F) Joseph Choi and (C) Max Choi are one of the few who can match-up with TEA. JBH (G) Ryan Kim is having a career season, scoring 19 pts on 5 3FGs. He is averaging a career-high 17 ppg through 4 games.
