TDL Spring 2016 Week 5 Results
RECAP: With no (F) Mark Hahn to contend with the size and defensive physicality of the Wolverines, Thunder captain (G) Leuis Ng tried to use his speed to his team’s advantage as often as possible. WOL still was able to keep the tempo within their wheelhouse, but Ng’s play-making down the stretch put the game out of reach. |
RECAP: A solid well-rounded effort from Ball So Hard hands Gritty FOB City their second loss of the season. FOB City’s (G) David Ri and (F) Steven Chung never quite got the shot going, which will always limit FOB’s offensive output. (G) Hans Tsai returned to the BSH line-up but was quiet in limited minutes. |
||||||||||||||||
RECAP: The Sex Panthers would be the first to admit they struggle with faster, younger teams. And the Dirk Digglers are exactly that, winning their 4th straight game by using their frenetic defense and speed in transition. The Panthers just seemed to uncharacteristically lose their composure to a Digglers team that has come a long way, with their eyes set on a title run. |
RECAP: The Raptors have always been a more physical team, and TAP doesn’t always handle that kind of physicality well. Both teams tend to go on offensive dy spells, which gave TAP a chance late in the 2nd half, but the Raptors were able to will their way to a win. |
||||||||||||||||
RECAP: This just isn’t No Fly Zone’s season. It’s been one injury after another and with no (G) Derik Kumagai and no (F) Young Wang to hold down the paint, they didn’t have much chance against a bigger Flying Fairies team. FLY didn’t shoot well, but dominated the offensive glass, epitomized by (F) Henry Quach‘s 19 pts on 22 attempts, with 10 rebounds. |
RECAP: Undefeated Teal Curtain looked like an unstoppable juggernaut coming in but they were also short-handed with just 5 available players. Supreme Team’s deep bench put TEA to the test as their front-line of (F) Joseph Choi and (C) Max Choi are one of the few who can match-up with TEA. JBH (G) Ryan Kim is having a career season, scoring 19 pts on 5 3FGs. He is averaging a career-high 17 ppg through 4 games. |
TDL Spring 2016 Week 5 Results
RECAP: The Ninjas had to start short-handed and never quite got on track. SKK (C) Graham Diamond dominated in the paint early on, and the Kids shared the ball well, not forcing much. ASN looked sluggish throughout, and they had no answer for SKK (G) Donnie Walsh. Walsh is averaging 29.7 ppg in his last 3 games. |
RECAP: L.O.B. just couldn’t get it going from the perimeter and that limited their chances in the paint as well. SK War Dog (F) Ted Hiao was a man possessed, playing aggressively on D while (G) Pat Youreneff and (G) Kash Miah put in their usual work to put this game away early. |
||||||||||||||||
RECAP: On paper this was an evenly-matched game, but Shawty seemed intimidated by Let It Fly (C) Shawn Bailey‘s length in the paint. After a few big blocks, they didn’t attack him much, and the 3’s weren’t falling either. Bailey was the catalyst when it came down to which team wanted this one more. Solid win for LIF. |
RECAP: Both teams were hot early. No Fly Zone’s offense was strong, but their defense was sluggish throughout, and FAS (G) David Chu (27 pts) took advantage. Down the stretch, NFZ made runs, but someone on FAS always stepped up. It was tied late in the 4th when NFZ (F) David Farnham made a deep 3 with 5.2 secs left that proved to be the game-winner. |
||||||||||||||||
RECAP: The Honey Badgers looked like they had this game under control midway through the 4th quarter when they suddenly went cold. And Lace’O My Aso in turn, went very hot, going on a 16-2 run to finish the game. (F) Kevin Cheddie was a difference maker despite arriving late, but LMA getting (G) Matt Joshy back on the floor with a game-high 18 pts was huge. |
RECAP: Financial Ventures (F) Kev Chang is low-key putting on an MVP display right now, carrying his team to wins. But even with Chang’s heroics, this one came down to the last shot, a missed game-tying attempt by (G) Vasu Kulkarni. Despite the loss, Jay’s Angels continues to look like a dark horse team that can make some noise if they make the playoffs. |
||||||||||||||||
RECAP: The Top Stars were short-handed once again, and for once, the Raining Rosebuds had some decent numbers. Newcomer (G) N’Kosi Gaddy proved to be an instant impact, shooting well from mid-range and finishing on the break. TOP did well to stay within reach entering the 4th qtr, but ran out of gas late in this one. |

TDL Spring 2016 Week 4 Results
RECAP: It was a shootout from the start, even though NY Dynasty had to play the 1st quarter with only 4 players on the court. But DYN (G) Ren Hsieh kept them in it with a season-high 35 pts. But it wasn’t enough DYN had no answer for GMM (F) Jin Bae Kim, who got it going early with athletic moves to the basket and (G) Tommy Wong backing him up from outside. The duo never let up, securing a big win. |
RECAP: If you wanted parity in this division, you got it. Doris didn’t look good in their opener but they have bounced back well since, winning 3 straight. Skillshare has all the tools to make a title run, but they’ve dropped a couple games down at the wire. They could’ve just as easily been 4-0. But in this one, Doris made all the big shots down the stretch to pull out back and forth game that came down to the final shot. |
||||||||||||||||
RECAP: The Freemasons don’t make it look very pretty, but they’ve evened up their record at 2-2 by holding teams to a league best 43.8 ppg. That is 8.5 ppg better than anyone else. FRE was aggressive attacking the basket, and playing the passing lanes. And eventually, Spaghetti Ramen lost the handle on this one. SPR has been a little uneven this season, but this was still a winnable game for them. They’ll have a chance to bounce back next week vs 2-2 NY Dynasty. |
RECAP: What a game, maybe the best regular season game we’ll see this spring. BDL started okay, but Gritty quickly took over as (G) Mark Lee caught fire from 3, hitting 4 straight. With (C) Vic Chia also playing well, NGC led by as much as 16 pts. Then BDL turned it around, forced TOs, and got out in transition. This freed (G) Tran Truong to unleash a firestorm of 3FGs to get back within single digits. When NGC turned their attention on him, (G) Paul Shen and (G) Jae Kim started knocking them down. (G) Nelson Yu and (C) Dan Tak put the finishing touches with a dagger 3 from Yu and a key late-game block from Tak that held off a Gritty team that ran out of gas. |
