TDL Spring 2016 Week 2 Results [3rd Division]

Doris From Rego Park (1-1) 63
Spaghetti Ramen (1-1) 46
Thursday, April 14, 6:45pm at MLK HS Box Score
Player of the Game: Billy Katz (DOR) 17 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals

Doris From Rego Park (F) Billy Katz had a solid debut last week, logging a double-double, and he added to that performance in Week 2 with a game-high 17 points in a convincing bounce back win over Spaghetti Ramen. Veteran SPR (G) Leuis Ng had an uncharacteristically bad shooting night, and his team didn’t fare much better shooting a season-low 27%.

Make BDL Great Again (0-2) 46
NY Dynasty (2-0) 55
Thursday, April 14, 7:45pm at MLK HS Box Score
Player of the Game: Ren Hsieh (DYN) 21 points, 3 rebounds 4 assists

Ball Don’t Lie started the game on fire, making 5-7 1st half 3FGs while NY Dynasty (G) Ren Hsieh started just 1-8 from the field with his team playing short-handed. But he quickly turned it around, hitting 5 of his next 8, and received a welcome sight when (F) Steve Song finally arrived to help seal their second win of the season.

NYC Gritty Committee (1-1) 54
Skillshare (1-1) 56
Thursday, April 14, 8:45pm at MLK HS Box Score
Player of the Game: Elliot Curtis (SKL) 23 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists

This is a game that NYC Gritty is gonna want back. They controlled the game throughout, leading by double digits in the 3rd quarter, but (G) Elliott Curtis and Skillshare kept inching back into it. And in the 4th quarter, they got hot and took the lead. Gritty recovered enough to have a shot to win it in the final seconds, but NGC (F) Jiwon Kim‘s jumper was just off the mark.

Guard Me Maybe (1-1) 35
NY Freemasons (1-1) 44
Thursday, April 14, 9:45pm at MLK HS Box Score
Player of the Game: Neil Dumadag (FRE) 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals

Guard Me Maybe actually started strong, going up 17-9 in the 1st quarter, pushing toward what seemed to be another blowout win. But in the 2nd half, the shots just stopped falling. They scored only 1 point in the 3rd quarter, a franchise-low mark. (G) Tommy Wong shot just 1-18 FGs, a career worst. GMM finished shooting 21% from the field in a disaster. And give it up to the Freemasons for making the plays down the stretch to hold onto the win.

Guard Me Maybe (2-0) 72
Sal Team 6 (1-1) 67
Wednesday, April 13, 6:45pm at MLK HS Box Score
Player of the Game: Jason Crowell (GMM) 17 points, 2 rebounds, 6 steals

This game went back and forth for much of the early going, neither team seemed able to gain control, but midway through the 4th quarter, Sal Team 6 appeared to have a comfortable lead. That’s when the Guard Me Maybe defense turned up the intensity led by (F) Jason Crowell and (F) Darnell Cudjoe. GMM quite literally stole this game away in the final seconds as Crowell and Cudjoe led the way down the stretch.

NY Dynasty (0-1) 70
That 70s Team (1-1) 90
Wednesday, April 13, 7:45pm at MLK HS Box Score
Player of the Game: Not yet available.

Short-handed Dynasty playing without (F) George O’Garro and (F) Seamus McKiernan were no match for a suddenly much bigger That 70s Team. (F) Matija Petrovic got it going early offensively with (F) Lou McCroskey running the show. Then (C) Sava Vemic took over in the middle quarters. The trio would take turns scoring in the 2nd half to put this one away. DYN (C) Reid Wittman finished with 17 points, 9 rebounds.

Free Agents (1-1) 72
Tim Nubina (1-1) 63
Thursday, April 14, 8:45pm at MLK HS Box Score
Player of the Game: Arjun Ohri (FAS) 23 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block

This is a good example of how tough the Free Agents can be when they’re on their game. It wasn’t so much a question of how well they shot, but how many open looks they got, the ball just never stopped. And, Tim Nubina, no slouch of a team having knocked off former champion MWW last week, seemed to struggle to keep up with the FAS ball movement. FAS finished with two 20-pt scorers in (F) Arjun Ohri (23) and (G) Morgan Blakely (21).

Meta World War (1-1) 75
NYK Spartans (0-2) 51
Thursday, April 14, 9:45pm at MLK HS Box Score
Player of the Game: Shamel Arasmo (MWW) 23 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals

Spartans (G) Mike Kim and (F) Young Song did their best to help their team keep pace with Meta World War early on, but the short-handed MWW still had too much fire-power. The Spartans just couldn’t keep up. MWW (G) Shamel Arasmo continues to score well, netting his second straight game of 23+ points, and they got a great all-around performance from (F) Chaz Thomas in his return to the line-up.

No Fly Zone took a convincing 33-19 lead into half-time on the heels of (G) Even Leong‘s red-hot shooting. The Raptors caught fire in the 2nd half, scoring 44 pts in the final two periods to get it within two possessions late, but a huge all-around effort from (G) Derik Kumagai (9 points, 14 reb, 7 assist) and clutch FT shooting from (G) Ren Hsieh held off the always resilient Raps.

Honey Badgers (1-0) 58
Sunday, April 4, 4:30pm at MLK HS  Box Score
Player of the Game: Zack Moretti (HON) 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks

It was a back and forth game early with X1’s defense keeping them on pace with the powerhouse Honey Badgers. But in the 2nd half, it was the Badgers’ D that took over. HON (G) Alex Tsay finished with a whopping 8 steals, while (F) Zach Moretti (4 blk) looks like a perfect fit with his hustle on defense. X1 (C) Michael Boord finished with 11 pts, 13 reb, 3 stl, 3 blk of his own.
