TDL Winter 2017 Week 4 Power Rankings (All Sunday Divisions)

1ST DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(+3) SKW 2-1 Two seasons ago, they were back back-to-back champs. Now, SK WAR DOG is back at the top of the rankings. And (G) Kash Miah isn’t even close to 100% back yet from a knee injury. It’s seasons like this that make you think they never age. A 40+ year old guard is scoring 23 ppg.
(=) NFZ 2-1 After a season opening loss to SKW, it looks like YUNG NO FLY ZONE is finding it’s groove now. The Flyers are undersized with sneaky athletic wings, but it’s their added physicality in the paint with new member (F) Sherwin Salar that has made the most obvious difference.
(=) LIZ 2-1 THE LIZARDS are carrying a lot of new faces, but they hung up two impressive wins before an uncharacteristic loss in Week 4. But with (G) Joe Zenz at the helm and shooter (G) Christian Jordan, this is a solid back court. Getting (F) Nat Schacht back doesn’t hurt either.
(-3)
LMA
1-2 LACE’O MY ASO completely dismantled ADG in their opener, but now they’ve taken two straight losses by 20 pts to D1’s top two teams. Teams are starting to key in on reigning MVP (G) Mathew Joshy now, but this team has all the personnel it needs to contend. They must bounce back.
(+2) ADG 2-1 Carrying a ton of size and deep roster, ADAM D GAMBLERS has all the pieces they need. They will never be the faster team, but their size can punish opponents. So far their 3-pt shooting has not helped much, but if those shots start dropping, this team can move all the way up.
(=) SKK 1-2 After a much-needed first win, SHAWN KEMP’S KIDS can settle in a little now. When (C) Graham Diamond is able to make his presence felt on offense (and D), SKK is very tough. But someone needs to step up as a consistent secondary scorer to (G) Donovan Walsh.
(+1) STM 1-2 STRANGER TEAM is young and has good speed in the open court, where (G) Dylan Rafferty has been fearless. STM has multiple double digit scorers, but they struggle to get stops when they need them. They could also use a consistent 3-pt shooter to spread the floor.
(-3) RAR 1-2 After consecutive losses, the RAINING ROSEBUDS need to bounce back with a solid effort this week vs SKW. The team isn’t shooting well right now, scoring just 49 ppg. That’s just not going to be enough to win consistently with their relative lack of size on the roster.

2ND DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(+1) BOM 2-1 We’re still not clear yet on who exactly is on the roster and who isn’t, but BOMB SQUAD absolutely roasted former #1 WOL. Even without (F) Joseph Bravo on the roster, this is a big, physical team that knows how to finish games. They have repeat chip on their minds.
(-1)
WOL
2-1 For the WOLVERINES, it all depends on whether their shots are falling. The defensive effort is always there. The blowout loss to BOM in Wk 4 was a shocker. We’ll call that the outlier for now. The key for WOL is getting (G) Nick Abrapour to play well and fit in.
(=) FOB 3-0 Three games, three wins. Though the last one was not very convincing. GRITTY FOB CITY looked on their way to losing to NYU before the latter team threw it away with unsportsmanlike conduct. Nevertheless, here FOB City stands at 3-0.
(+1) SXP 2-1 The SEX PANTHERS could just as easily be 3-0 if not for squandering a lead to WOL. Backcourt trio of (G) David Chu, (G) Greg Loeffert, and (G) Caleb Lui is D2’s most formidable. And (F) Chris Di has been their best player so far this season, maybe in all of D2.
(+1) BRI 2-2 The NY BRICKS have been working in some new personnel, but they look on the verge of turning the corner into possible contender. Scoring has been balanced from their Top 3, but overall points is not where it should be. 49 ppg won’t get it done for this undersized team.
(+2) TEA 1-1 TEAL CURTAIN has played only two games so far, but with (F) Noah Scovronick on the floor, these guys are just so tough to beat. He is the best low-post scorer in the league, and the team plays with that much more confidence when he’s on the floor.
(-2) ROV 2-1 RICE IN OUR VEINS is in decent position with two wins under their belt, but to move up, they have to beat some Top 5 teams. This is a guard heavy team with plenty of firepower, the could have very well won the Week 2 match-up with TEA with a full roster.
(-1) TAP 1-2 They got a couple of tough losses, but TAP NY have been right there this season. (F) Dave Liu has been a solid pick up, but TAP hasn’t been able to get (F) Jin Bae Kim involved as much as they’d like. Luckily, (G) Will Chu is playing at a high level right now.
(+3) NYU 1-2 Even into Week 4, NYUNITED‘s roster is still in a state of flux. But with (G) Nakami Morrison at the helm, and now (F) Richard Sun back in the lineup, this will be a tough team that should move up. Assuming they can stop forfeiting games.
10 (=) SPR 1-3 SPAGHETTI RAMEN got a much-needed win vs NFZ in Wk 3, but then gave up a heart-breaker to SXP in Wk 4. They are in must-win territory now at 1-3. But the last team you want to count out is Ramen. It’s a tough road ahead, but all are winnable games.
11 (=) NFZ 1-2 NO FLY ZONE OG finally got off the shneid with their first win of the season vs GOA in Wk 4. The big change? Adding (F) Phil Thomas. The aging Flyers needed athleticism, scoring & back line defense, basically everything. And in Thomas, they get the complete package.
12 (-4) GOA 1-3 Last season, the GOAT HERDERS looked like a team on the verge of contending. Then (C) Frank Ward went down to injury. Replacement (F) Andrea Kormosis is a next level scorer, but GOA needs to develop some chemistry with him. And time is short.

3RD DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=)
JPU
3-0 JAPAN UNITED continues to play small ball, but they’re very good at it. (G) Ryota Takahashi is emerging as an MVP candidate this season (as he should be). And the addition of (F) Shinto Sato has given them even more depth. This is a very good D3 team.
(=) STR 3-0 They may have to tweak their roster, but STREET DREAMS is more like a #1.25 than #2. Reigning MVP (G) Miguel Melbourne is putting in the usual work, and (F) Neil Dumadag is thriving this season.
(+3) FAL 2-1 This is a young team, but the NY FALCONS U have solid height and athleticism. (F) Jeff Zhang is a match-up problem for most teams in D3. And they get balanced scoring in the 7-8 ppg range from their next 5 players. This is a deep roster that plays efficiently.
(=) CRU 2-2 After two straight wins, THE CRUSTACEANS picked up two straight losses, but the reason they’re still in the Top 4 is those losses came to JPU and STR, #1 and #2 respectively. They took both teams to the final buzzer. If CRU can start closing games like that, they will contend.
(+3) BLO 2-1 THE BLOUSES bounced back from a Wk 1 loss to look very good in their two wins. (G) Mark Feeney has been lights out from the 3-pt line in that stretch. (G) Roswell Lo gives them a solid option attacking the basket. This team could make some noise.
(-3) POG 2-1 After an impressive start to the season, POGI POINTS got blasted by BLO in Wk 3. Throwaway game? Maybe. (G) Gio Panlileo has looked like a reliable scoring option, but somehow they need more from (F) Jin Bae Kim. He’s been efficient, but something seems to be missing.
(-2) PAN 1-2 They’ve looked uneven this season, but THE PANDAS are working in some new players, so that might be the reason. This is a team that has plenty of firepower on paper, but they need better decisions right now all around, 16.7 topg does not a contender make.
(-1) GOO 1-2 GOON SQUAD scorer (G) Charles Zheng has been off this season. And they haven’t had anyone else step up. Zheng did put up 18 pts in a much-needed Wk 4 win vs SON, so that’s a testament to what they can do when he is scoring. GOO is still very alive for playoffs.
(=) SON 0-3 Two solid efforts to start the season for the SUPERSONICS, but then a clunker to GOO that was almost a must-win scenario. They will be competing with GOO for that last playoff spot. SON needs scoring help.
10 (=) LIF 0-4 Somehow, someway, LET IT FLY has gotta get a win. They should be better than 0-4. Mathematically, they aren’t eliminated from playoff contention yet, but they have to turn this around now.

TDL Winter 2017 Week 4 Power Rankings (All Weeknight Divisions)

PREMIER DIVISION

Rank Team Record Comments
(+1) SIX 3-0 It’s the same core group of players, and it’s steady as she goes. TEAM SIX is once again a contender. Getting (F) Parker McClelland playing at a high level is a big part of that. Big test this week vs MWW.
(+2)  WHG 3-1 After losing their opener, WE HAD GAME has won 3 straight incl a big win over defending champs MWW. (G) Michael Springer is playing MVP-caliber ball, and (F) Ezra Ritchin‘s relentless attack makes WHG a dangerous offense. Adding (G/F) Zack Simmons is huge.
(-2)
MWW
3-1 METTA WORLD WAR was short-handed and out of sync in a Wk 4 loss, but (F) Claude Blue returned to the lineup. If healthy, he’s a top end athlete. Rookie (F) Ishmael Kalilou has been solid. MWW haven’t been as dominant with new pieces to work in but don’t sleep on them.
(-1) DYN 2-1 Rocky start for NY DYNASTY with some new faces on the roster, but they seem to have found an identity. DYN has played thus far like a grind it out kind of team. It won’t be pretty, but they’ll compete.
(=) FKA 1-2 F.K.A.L.J.S has talent, and they’re two losses came by a combined 2 pts to Top 4 teams DYN and MWW. They could just as easily be 3-0, so closing games is what they have to figure out. (G) David Kalema and (F) Tom Killiam are two of Premier’s most exciting new players.
(=) COL 0-3 After strong showings vs last season’s finalists MWW and SIX, TEAM COLISEUM took a big L vs red hot WHG. How they bounce back from this will determine their season. It’s must-win time now.
(=) GMM 0-4 With the names on this roster, and the addition of dynamic rookie (G) Donnell Mitchell, you wouldn’t have thought this team would be 0-4. They’re not out of it yet, but like COL, it’s must-win time.

1ST DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(+2) SPA 3-0 NYK SPARTANS (F) Young Song is on fire, scoring 33.3 ppg on 74% FGs. And it’s nothing special. He is not athletic, not big, not a shooter. He just knows how to put the ball in the hole. If you want beat SPA, you have to figure out how to stop Song. Don’t ask us, we don’t know either.
(=) ASN 3-0 It was always feels like the ASPHALT NINJAS have the longest roster in the league and captain (G) Wilson Lew always seems able to get contributions from every player. Last season’s finalists are a contender again this season with (C) Rigo Sargeant back.
(-2)
HON
3-0 The HONEY BADGERS fall two spots through know fault of their own. They are a ground and pound team, but so is everyone else in the Top 3 right now. The big ? for HON is getting (F) Zack Moretti on track.
(+1) JLA 1-2 The neophyte JUSTICE LEAGUE has shot well from three, which has kept them in games. They’ve been competitive and front-court adds will help. JLA should make the playoffs. Then we’ll see how far they’ve come.
(+1) OPA 1-3 OPTION A has one of the most imposing front-courts in D1 with (F) Haris Ahmed and (C) Pablo Salcedo covering the paint. They’ve been right there in every game, they just have to figure out how to win close games. If they do, this team could be a dark horse contender.
(-2) TOP 0-3 Not a pretty start for the defending champs, but the regular season has never been kind to the TOP STARS. If they can just qualify for the playoffs, we’ve already seen what kind of run they can make.
(=) ALL 0-3 Rough start for ALL NET so far, but they’re by no means out of it yet. They have all the size and skill positions filled, they just need to start making shots. If they get hot, they can make a move.

2ND DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(+1) NYR 3-0 The NY ROCKITS are the youngest and fastest team in D2, and it’s that speed that has opponents stifled right now. It might take a bigger team to dictate the tempo with ground and pound to beat them, but NGC wasn’t able to do it. Tough to say right now if anyone will.
(-1)
NGC
2-1 They didn’t look good vs NYR, but NYC GRITTY COMMITTEE is still a fully loaded veteran roster. They should bounce back from that loss to make the playoffs easily. Then they’ll get another shot at NYR.
(=) DYN 2-1 When they’re good, they’re great. When they’re bad, they’re terrible. It’s no secret this is the entire league’s oldest team (across all divisions). But at full strength, this is a veteran roster with the pieces to win it all.
(+3) JUN 1-1 They beat a short-handed DYN team, but lost to GMM who is 1-3. Which is to say, the JUNKIES look solid, but we’ll need to see one more strong win before they move up. We’re not betting against them.
(=) DPY 2-1 DON’T EVER PLAY YOURSELF is in good position at 2-1. If they can get two more wins, they will seal a playoff berth. Their off season adds have been effective, solid turnaround so far.
(-2) GMM 1-3 GUARD ME MAYBE’s franchise player (F) Brian Law hasn’t played a game this season, so accordingly, they’re 1-3. They can still squeak back into the playoff picture, but it’s pretty much must-win territory now.
(-1) JAM 0-4 Not the start SPACE JAM was looking for. And their last two losses were especially painful, they could’ve been wins. So it’s must-win time now. JAM have to win out and hope for some losses, but they’re not out of it.

3RD DIVISION (WEEKNIGHTS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(=)
SPR
3-0 How is SPAGHETTI RAMEN still this good? With (G) Leuis Ng quiet so far, (F) Matt Auerbach has been their best player. They’re the quintessential D3 team, no ringers or oversized players. Just a group who has been together a long time and plays hard. It’s aspirational.
(=) SKL 3-1 Defending champs, SKILLSHARE, are the Golden State Warriors of D3, a top-heavy team with the ability to blowout any team. And (G) Michael Hamane hasn’t even played a full game yet. They’ll get their opponents’ best effort every night this season, but they have not wavered.
(=) DYN 2-1 NY DYNASTY upgraded their shooting this season with (G) David Chu. Which gives this defensive-minded team the offense it needs to contend this season. If (F) Brian Yang can playoff enough games to qualify for the playoffs, he’s the front-court option they need.
(=) NYE 2-1 With two much-needed wins, NYCE has bounced back from a season opening dud to put themselves in position to make the playoffs. This is as big a roster as you’ll find in D3. Figuring out chemistry is the key.
(=) 30F 1-2 Captain (F) Adam Wang trimmed some of the fat from last season’s 30-FOR-30 roster, but they may have lost some of that raw energy last season’s team had. Nevertheless, this is a team with solid pieces. They just need someone (Wang) to step up as a consistent scorer.
(=) GOZ 1-3 GAME OF ZONES picked up a huge win to keep their playoff hopes alive. But the road gets no easier, they’ll have to win out to stay above water, and they face last season’s finalists SPR and SKL ahead.
(=) LG3 0-4 Newbies LG FOR 3 haven’t won yet, but it can take time for new teams to get acclimated. If you can believe it, Spaghetti Ramen didn’t win very much early on either, now they’re going for a 5th D3 title.

1ST DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments
(N/A)
LMA
1-0 No team looked more ready in their opener than LACE’O MY ASO. They’re in mid-season form, and the return of (F/C) Kyle Jose is huge. They need his size and all-around skills. But this is the (G) Mat Joshy show. The reigning MVP looks primed and ready to for a chip.
(N/A) NFZ 1-1 You don’t usually see much turnover in this veteran team, but YUNG NO FLY ZONE has some new faces. So there will be growing pains, in this case, on defense, giving up a whopping league-high 74 ppg so far. But if they can get it together, this is a stacked roster.
(N/A) LIZ 1-0 This isn’t the same LIZARDS team that won the D1 title a few years ago. There are some new pieces on the roster, but most importantly, (G) Joe Zenz, a perennial MVP candidate, and arguably the best PG in D1. And word is (F) Nat Schacht will return to the roster as well.
(N/A) SKW 1-1 SK WAR DOG erupted in a supernova in their opener vs NFZ, scoring 81 pts in the win. But that fast start only masked some big issues. This team is undersized, carrying the oldest roster in D1, and (G) Kash Miah will need time in his first season back from his knee injury.
(N/A) RAR 1-0 RAINING ROSEBUDS lost a heart-breaker in the playoffs, having to play short-handed in the 1st round. But virtually the same personnel is back to rekindle the great run they had last season. Their veteran backcourt is enough to pull out most games.
(N/A) SKK 0-2 SHAWN KEMP’S KIDS guards are wreaking havoc on both ends of the court, but their back line is not particularly quick, which can cause defensive problems late in games. But the good news is, (G) Donovan Walsh is hitting his jumper, so a turnaround seems imminent.
(N/A) ADG 0-2 They have the biggest roster in D1 in terms of overall size, but like SKK, the ADAM D GAMBLERS don’t have a ton of speed on the back line. And their backcourt is more power guards than speedy. Which is okay, if they can better control tempo, they can still make a move up.
(N/A) STM 0-1 STRANGER TEAM is a young team making their second campaign in D1. They have plenty of speed and shooters, but so far, not much size. Which like ADG is okay if they can dominate pace and space. To do that though, they will need to shoot better than 24% from 3.

2ND DIVISION (SUNDAYS)

Rank Team Record Comments

WOL
2-0 With each passing season, the WOLVERINES have gotten better at pulling out wins even when it looks like they’re not sharp. Reigning MVP (F) Nick Liveris has not missed a beat, and in his 2nd season with WOL, (G) Nick Abrapour should only get better.
(N/A) BOM 1-1 The defending champs, BOMB SQUAD, look as tough as ever with most of the same core intact. Throwaway the loss, it was essentially a forfeit. One new face is (C) Spencer Bartlebaugh replacing (F) Joseph Bravo. He is a house in the paint.
(N/A) FOB 2-0 This is the same GRITTY FOB CITY as ever, and they’ve gotten off to a great start, which is not always the case. (F) Ken Van is playing well, and they got two wins with no (G) Ace Watanasuparp in the lineup. We’ll have to see how long this lasts.
(N/A) ROV 2-0 You won’t recognize the name, but RICE IN OUR VEINS is a former D2 champ as SHA. There are some new pieces in place, but rest assured (F) Sam Lu & (G) Deric Kung will be launching 3FGs from beginning to end. This team has some serious firepower.
(N/A) SXP 0-1 The veteran SEX PANTHERS gave away a very winnable game to #1 WOL, which is a testament to how good they still are. (G) Caleb Lui has joined this season’s roster along with the usual suspects.
(N/A) BRI 1-1 The NY BRICKS took D2 by storm a few seasons ago as DRK. But a few seasons off can mess with continuity. Bricks are averaging a team league-low 40 ppg. BRI (G) Eric Kim is still one of the most dangerous PGs in D2 but they need some offense quick
(N/A) TAP 1-1 TAP NY is low key good and should be looking to move up. They went toe-to-toe with BOM, and blew out NYU, and that’s because (G) Will Chu is red hot. (F) Dave Liu is a great add and they still have (G) John Hsu and (F) Jin Bae Kim who have been quiet.
(N/A) GOA 1-1 With the addition of (G) Evan Tsevdos, who looks fully recovered from knee issues, the GOAT HERDERS have as top-heavy a roster as you can get. But as good as their Top 4 or 5 players are, they will need big contributions from role players to make it all work.
(N/A) TEA 0-1 TEAL CURTAIN has been on the verge for a few seasons now. And you can’t say it’s because they’re new anymore. When they have a full roster, they’re a contender with their size and commitment to defense. But those days have been few and far between.
10 (N/A) SPR 0-2 The 4x D3 champs, SPAGHETTI RAMEN picked a tough season to move up to D2. This is a stacked field, and no matter what happens, some teams will be disappointed come playoff time. But they still have a D3 WN team vying for a 5th chip, so why not give this a shot.
11 (N/A) NFZ 0-1 Three seasons ago NO FLY ZONE OG would have been a stacked team. But with this many players over 30, particularly lead (G) Ren Hsieh who will be 39 this season, this may be the final decline. That is unless they get some help, particularly some young legs.
12 (N/A) NYU 0-1 NY UNITED had only a shell squad available in their opener. Their roster is not yet set, so this is a default low ranking. We’re pretty sure they will add some solid pieces.

JPU
2-0 Spaghetti Ramen moved up, so D3 is up for grabs this season. So last season’s finalists, JAPAN UNITED is poised to take the reins. (G) Osamu Tanigawa & (G) Ryota Takahashi are the fastest duo in D3. And they have all the pieces they need to win it all.
(N/A) STR 1-0 Last season, STREET DREAMS looked like they might unseat SPR, but they lost in the semis to JPU. So (G) Miguel Melbourne, D3’s reigning MVP, is back to make another run at it.
(N/A) POG 2-0 The new kids on the block, POGI POINTS is led by speedy (F) Jin Bae Kim. They have a rookie scorer in (G) Gio Panlileo that teams should go ahead and put on the scouting report. This team is a total wild card right now until we see more of them.
(N/A) CRU 2-0 THE CRUSTACEANS are on the same boat, great 2-0 start, but lots of unknowns. One thing’s for sure (G) Jason Lai looks like a bona fide D3 franchise player, carrying CRU with 20 ppg, 7.5 rpg.
(N/A) PAN 0-1 Tough loss for THE PANDAS in Week 1, but they should bounce back to be a playoff team. Led by do-it-all (F) Ben Wang, it’s not clear if (G) Eddie Tsao is on the roster yet, but they have added another shooter with (G) Jason Truong.
(N/A) FAL 1-1 NY FALCONS U are probably the youngest team in D3, so there will be ups and downs. But one thing is for sure, they can score the ball at a whopping 61 ppg so far. (F) Jeff Zheng should be among the league’s top scorers this season.
(N/A) GOO 0-1 Not a great start for GOON SQUAD, but they made a 2nd half surge last fall to make some noise. Depends on personnel, but they can do it again. GOO’s been here long enough to know what it takes.
(N/A) BLO 0-1 We have seen the full roster yet, but THE BLOUSES look like a number of transplants from LEGO in D3 WN. That was a team that tended to underachieve, but having All-Defensive team (C) Danius Giedraitis back is a good anchor to move up from.
(N/A) SON 0-2 A heartbreaking loss to CRU in Week 2 is the only thing dropping the SUPERSONICS outside of playoff contention right now. This is a team with a lot of new faces, so even at 0-2, anything is possible. They will, however, need to find some consistent scoring.
10 (N/A) LIF 0-2 Perennially one of our favorite teams, LET IT FLY has the pieces to make a playoff run. The problem has been chemistry and nobody is getting any younger. This is a momentum team, so if they can string together a couple of solid wins, they can make a run.
