RECAP: The early game of the night often goes to the team who can get enough players on the floor. Boomtown was short-handed, as could be expected, but Guard Me Maybe came in with a full roster, and just overwhelmed BOO in the 2nd half. It was a solid effort all around for GMM, but if BOO can take some silver lining out of this loss, (F) Jake Moreno finished with 25 pts in his second game back in the lineup.

RECAP: When That 70s Team is in sync, they look unbeatable, but then they have games like these when no one looks like they’re on the same page. That left the door open for the Spartans, who never quit in any game, to come in and steal this win. Big time shooting from NYK (G) Ace Watanasuparp helped his Spartans team get their first win of the season.

RECAP: Both teams played dead even in the 1st half, but NY Dynasty noticeably upped their defensive intensity in the 2nd. Even with former Fordham (F) Chris Bethel arriving late for Tim Nubina, Dynasty held their ground, turning TIM’s missed shots and turnovers into easy finishes in transition. DYN (F) Fred Simpson has been the catalyst since joining the team two weeks ago. He is the perimeter defender they’ve been missing.

RECAP: Meta World War showed up with just four roster players, but picked up a sub to make 5. It was just enough to knock off Sal Team 6 side that struggled with their perimeter shooting for most of the night, all except for (F) Parker McClelland that is, who was knock down. It was McClelland who gave them the push to try and steal this one late, but key buckets in the paint by (F) Chaz Thomas and (C) Stedford McCleod helped MWW close this one out.

RECAP: This was a shell squad for That 70s Team, they had only two players available. And, Meta World War took full advantage, pouring it on, leading by 50 or more points by the 3rd qtr alone. It wasn’t pretty.

RECAP: NY Dynasty looked sluggish in the first half as Boomtown came out with their usual high energy D. DYN shot poorly from the perimeter and BOO took advantage in transition. But DYN settled down in the 2nd half as their defense hunkered down. DYN (F) Fred Simpson took over in the 4th qtr with 3 steals for consecutive points that gave DYN the lead and control of the game in what felt like a shocking comeback win.

RECAP: On a night when the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers broke an NBA record for 3FGs in one game, it looked like the Free Agents were trying to do the same. It seemed like they couldn’t miss from 3. Still, Guard Me Maybe kept this a back and forth kind of game, but late, their lack of a consistent perimeter attack saw them fall short.

RECAP: This one needed an extra period to be decided. (C) Chris Lemoine‘s addition to the NYK roster gave them some power to contend with in the paint, but Sal Team 6 answered by shooting well from 3. In fact, it was a late 3FG by (G) Brett Swanson that would be the go-ahead basket and game-winner in OT.

RECAP: The Spartans came in short-handed and never seemed to get on track despite keeping it close at halftime. Dynasty caught fire, however, in the 3rd quarter, scoring 29 points, their most in a period so far this season. And it was pretty much downhill from there. (F) Jin Hong paced the Spartans with 14 pts, 12 reb.

RECAP: What was expected to be a shootout, turned into a defensive battle of speed vs brawn. And brawn just edged out speed as this game neared playoff intensity. Neither team shot well in what was an ugly game for both, but (F) Matija Petrovic made the big shots down the stretch to help his team eke out this win.

RECAP: The Agents got off to a fast start as new adds (G) Alok Aiyar and (F) Tyson Harnett seemed to fit in seamlessly with their style of play. But, as to be expected, Boomtown fought back into it in the middle quarters led by some nice finishes by (G) Keith Markovich, and (F) Nate Jones’ typical effort. It just wouldn’t be enough as Aiyar led his team with 18 pts to hold off BOO.

RECAP: After a strong showing in their Week 1 win over MWW, Tim Nubina has now dropped two straight. This one to perennial contender Sal Team 6, which used their typical balanced scoring and tough defense to turn TIM’s reliance on the 3-pt shot into a weakness. TIM shot just 7-34 from behind the arc, a season-low. (F) Perun Kovacevic paced Nubina with 14 pts, 12 reb.

All this and big-time scorer (F) Jason Mendell hasn’t even touched the court yet. With (G) Landon Glover and (G) Gino Calderon bolstering this backcourt, GMM might be ready to contend.

 In their opening loss to TIM, they had to go without key players in the lineup, and they still led for most of that game. But, through Week 2, their roster still looks a little unclear. If they don’t have (C) Kwa Brenya to backup (F) Stedford McCleod, MWW could suddenly seem like a team on the small side.

 As they displayed in their Week 2 win over TIM, when this team is playing sharp, they can beat anyone, whether they have a true center on the roster or not. (G) Gus Gauntlett has been the prefect replacement for departed (G) Landon Glover and (G) Gino Calderon. And, (F) Varun Manocha‘s tireless work on the boards is always a welcome sight.

 We’ve never had a team as big as Tim Nubina in this league before. Their roster boasts a 7-footer, along with 6-8, 6-7, 6-7, and 6-6 players. They don’t have anyone shorter than 6-2 on the team. Not only are they big, but they can shoot. But as good as they are, they haven’t yet been dominant. That could just be a matter of time.

 Boomtown will never be the most talented team on the floor, but they will never be out-worked on the court. Their nightly blue-collar effort earned them a championship not too far back. (F) Nate Jones seems to have broken a season long shooting slump from a forgettable Fall 2015 campaign. And, (G) Jack Delighter is back on the roster, BOO’s heart and soul.

 The veteran Sal Team 6 hasn’t looked particularly sharp in their first two games after back-to-back disappointing seasons in which they were built to win it all. But maybe new addition (F) Rashaun Banjo can help fire things up for them. (F) Parker McClelland‘s return to the lineup should also help.

 Aside from TIM, That 70s Team can boast the next biggest lineup in the league with 6-7 (F) Matija Petrovic, 6-7 (F) Martin Brusewitz and 6-6 (C) Sava Vemic. All three have been strong in the paint so far, but 70S’ chances will rely on their guard play and 3-pt shooting, which can be erratic. But if 6-5 (G) Lou McCroskey can get it going from the perimeter, this will be a tough team to stop. (G) Shaun Crummy should fit in well with his all-around contributions.

 Four-time champions NY Dynasty aren’t getting any younger and in Week 1, playing with a shell squad, they didn’t look like much. But, 6-6 (F) George O’Garro and 6-6 (F) Seamus McKiernan weren’t there. Neither were (G) Will Haile and (G) Pat Armstrong. This is still a team with a lot of firepower, and just last season, they finished 7-0 in the regular season (albeit with different personnel), falling just short in the championship game.

 The Spartans came in out of shape and under-manned. That’s not a good for competing in a league that is stacked from top to bottom. There will be no gimme wins to fall back on this season. The Spartans were always a team that had to outwork and out-smart other teams. So far, that just hasn’t happened.

This game went back and forth for much of the early going, neither team seemed able to gain control, but midway through the 4th quarter, Sal Team 6 appeared to have a comfortable lead. That’s when the Guard Me Maybe defense turned up the intensity led by (F) Jason Crowell and (F) Darnell Cudjoe. GMM quite literally stole this game away in the final seconds as Crowell and Cudjoe led the way down the stretch.

Short-handed Dynasty playing without (F) George O’Garro and (F) Seamus McKiernan were no match for a suddenly much bigger That 70s Team. (F) Matija Petrovic got it going early offensively with (F) Lou McCroskey running the show. Then (C) Sava Vemic took over in the middle quarters. The trio would take turns scoring in the 2nd half to put this one away. DYN (C) Reid Wittman finished with 17 points, 9 rebounds.

This is a good example of how tough the Free Agents can be when they’re on their game. It wasn’t so much a question of how well they shot, but how many open looks they got, the ball just never stopped. And, Tim Nubina, no slouch of a team having knocked off former champion MWW last week, seemed to struggle to keep up with the FAS ball movement. FAS finished with two 20-pt scorers in (F) Arjun Ohri (23) and (G) Morgan Blakely (21).

Player of the Game: Shamel Arasmo (MWW) 23 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals

Spartans (G) Mike Kim and (F) Young Song did their best to help their team keep pace with Meta World War early on, but the short-handed MWW still had too much fire-power. The Spartans just couldn’t keep up. MWW (G) Shamel Arasmo continues to score well, netting his second straight game of 23+ points, and they got a great all-around performance from (F) Chaz Thomas in his return to the line-up.
